Could someone please help me out quickly......i'm looking into gettin an inlet temp gauge on my pug....but need to find out summat........
........All i need to know is whats the sort of MAXIMUM temp i'm gonna experience in the pipes leading away from my intercooler at full boost (1.2 bar spun by a garrett t2 if that makes any difference)
This would need to be roughly 20cm AFTER the I/C
cheers

Coz basically i wanna do some testing!! And just outta curiousity as well
However, the main areas i like to see the temp differences would be after i've fitted.....
*larger i/c
*bonnet vent
*Water injection
*type of induction i use
So wot do u recon the max inlet temp i'll see is? 80-100? degrees C in standard form?

"Every drop of 4 degrees, has the potential to unleash 1+ bhp"
I was just reading on some Kiwi forum that this guy managed to get his temps down 19 degrees using water injection onto his 2.8 Pajero TD I/C

so........anyone got any info on water injection (on intercooler)
Is it worth it? will it make a noticeable difference? Am i better off just leaving it with a vent?

i know a lad with a scooby....
on the rollers it lost bhp with the water injection on to it turned off, but supposedly its better on the road - think he took it off thou

I'm just gonna make a cheapo little set up, and see how it goes.
but i need to sort out a inlet temp thingy first, so i can actually note the kinda difference its made!! if its reasonable, i might do it proper!
Altho i doubt anything will be better than using a bigger i/c and/or a vent

it's easy to set up an inlet temp. get two probes one pre intercooler one post intercooler. then get a digital gauge which alows you to switch between temps. then start recording

On the Nissan 200sx - standard intercooler was seeing inlet temps of up to 90 degrees, with the front mount these dropped as low as 29 degrees (that was on the rollers too!) As Vibs said all you need are temp sensors on the intercooler pipework of the car, thats it! I think Halfords do some temp sensors?
As far as the water spray goes, again on the 200sx I used the pipe work and motors of the washers for the headlamps. Basically disconnted the piping going to them, put Fiat Conquecento washer jets (3 jets) on the bumper either side of the intercooler and jobs a good one.
As far as how well it worked? To be honest, if it had been any more difficult than it was (ie p*ss easy!) I really wouldnt have bothered. Gains are gonna be minimal and who wants to try and press a little button when they are thrapping along!? Good for the novelty value though?
You may also have problems with the IC being on top of the engine too? Unless done properly itll soak your engine everytime you squirt it!
Hope that helps?

Stu - very good points there, cheers.
Vibs (or anyone else) - where could i get a pair of temp sensors??? I've looked in maplin, local motor factors, halfords etc and i cant see any that would do the job.
The only ones i have found can only read up to 60 degrees
Any ideas? any online stores that would do such a thing?
cheers!

Bit i've not got a clue as to what mine will show as it is now, and ideally, i think sensors that show up to bout 80degrees would be better

Yeah, with your cooler being mounted on top of the engine (like the one on my P1) I think youll find your inlet charge peaks in traffic will be quite high - you may even see over 90 degrees?
Try http://www.apex-performance.co.uk I know Bren from Apex has temp sensors suitable for the 200sx but as far as I can tell they are all gonna work on the same principal. All youll need is an airtight hole in your selected I/C pipe. Whether it be a flexible hose or something braised into the hard pipes.
Let us know how you get on, I reckon it will be quite interesting to see the different changes in charge air temp in different situations.
