right
got a corsa gsi on a 93 l plate
can be fine sometimes idling at about 800rpm
then i can get init and it will just idle at 1500 - 2000 rpm and the onyl way to stop it is turn the car off then start it agen!
usually cures it, but not for long cos it will just do it agen!
sometimes the revs bounce as well from about 400 to 600 rpm?
any ideas,,
i think its the govenor idle air valve but i dont wanna go give mr vauxhakll the money for a new one if i get told it aint that!
i aint gonna clean it cos half the time it makes no difference!
seein as they are only 50 quid anyway, might aswell get a new one
but i just wanna make sure its that!
cheers

I had the exact same problem with my car it turned out to be a temperature sensor that was bust. my car was still under warranty so im not sure on the cost as they paid for it. If its the same sensor that went on my car you can do it yourself. Gav

I had this problem on my 1994 M-reg GSI, i replaced all the sensors and it still didnt cure the problem, turned out to be an air leak in the inlet tract between the air flow sensor and throttle body, there was a huge hole in the pipe, i would check for leaks, spray WD40 all round the gaskets on the inlet side of the engine if the revs pick up you have found your problem and you know exactly what gasket needs replacing

i had the same problem too, and it was the idle control valve. I got away with having mine cleaned, but i think i might need a new one as it still isnt 100% right. It got so bad that every time i put the clutch down, it would stall - taking it to the garage was fun!

do the paper clip test and save yourself £25 to get the fault code then tell us the code and we can point you in the right direction, normally it can be a number of things even vauxhall wont be able to tell ya exactly what it is

They will only say to you, the code is this or that then send ya on ya way, seriously man do it yourself its easy, i would never pay vauxhall anything, do all the work myself

That does happen allot with this problem, they will change a sensor, then the same day it will fek up again, i have heard of people having new wiring looms fitted, new ecu's the lot just to have this sorted, more than likely they will change a couple of sensors.
I had a fault code that said low voltage across throttle position sensor, the sensor was not at fault it was a hole in the inlet trunking that did it

they remove the inlet trunking and move the throttle body next to the air box you gain 20+BHP with them cos your GSI is a C16XE engined one the lower inlet manifold will also be changed to a later X16XE one too so it can be fitted

£585 from Courteney sport, if your gonna tune this engine you really need to sort out the inlet with either the Mantzel power box or throttle bodies, a cheaper one is from Velos Motorsport and is £285 i belive and just as good
