Hi.
This is my recently finished project:
A "red-field" on the rev-counter made of 8 red LED's. They are controlled by the oil-temperature. When the engine is cold the larger "red-field" on the rev-counter. The oil-temperature is measured with a digital thermometer:
A picture of the 8 red LED's on the rev-counter at day-light. Oil-temperature is below 25 Degrees Celcius (from now on abbreviated DC):
When the engine/oil temperature is increasing...the LED's will turn of one by one. Here the oil-temperature has reached between 45 and 50 DC:
Here the oil-temperature has reached between 60 and 65 DC:
And finally when the oil-temperature is more than 70 DC, all LED's are turned of:
Now the engine is ready for some race! :-)
Any comments are welcome.
Cheers

mate thats a quality idea, can i ask what engine your running?
Would be an excellent idea for the turbo peeps, kind of an oil temp gauge that tells you when your safe to give it some right foot.
Not exactly a necessity on your average corsa SXI or anything but still a very good idea that has been well thought through

Thanks for the comments :-)
It is a x16xe engine in a Opel Corsa GSI fom 97
Att: jonathanbrook & drunkenfool; I have spent _many_ hours to implement everything. It consists of a digital thermometer, a "VU-meter" and a multiplier part. So the wiring diagram is not easy to make.
Att: broster; a better pictures is here. It is from "Project Opel":

There should be a few pictures in my "garage" http://www.corsasport.dk/forum/album_personal.php?user_id=11&sort_method=pic_time&sort_order=DESC&start=24
The Opel badges have been exchanged with Vauxhall badges (too many Opel's in Denmark ;-) )

I used: digital thermometer, VU-meter and a multiplier/converter to convert the signal from the thermometer so that it could be "understood" by the VU-meter. On the converter I can set gain and ofset which means that I can ajust the LED's (minimum and maximum temp. for switch on/off). It is also fitted with a potentiometer so that I can ajust the light intensity of the LED's.
There are 8 LED's. :-)
And I don't smoke pot or LSD

Also.... Are you sure that your LEDS switch off at the correct times? 2.5k at cold still seems a tad too low, i'd of thought more like 3-3.5.
