ok i have a mini case thing from maplins but im taking it back as i dont want it anymore
i need help with following....
i need:
pc case
mothorboard
ram
dvd drive
40gb hard disk
GOOD soundcard with 2 aux out
and a graphics card
inferred mouse and keyboard
all to fit into a box no bigger then a PS2 or a gamescube shape
can som1 help me finding what i need on net? no good with these things
also does the IR keyboard run off a USB port or card type thingy
would i be best off getting a laptop as i can hide it and remove it easy? or keep the mini pc as it loks cool and has digital display on front and usb cables, mouse etc plug directly in and its from maplins
also i need to add several cards like the one which enables wireless network and one for internet off my sim card, how do i do this?
many thanks
marv

using a mini-pc (shuttle) case is going to be a lot cheaper and easier to upgrade in the future, one of those should have a IR port on the front of it, you'll need to get an optical mouse for the pc otherwise you're gonna struggle.
you can set up the pc to use your phone as a modem over broadband too, beware tho or you may be getting some hefty bills through.
A P3 should be enough for what you wnat to do and about 256mb ram, I'd recomend windows XP as i have a interesting plan for the PC that'll be in my front room that you might like
Onboard video should be enough unless you are planning to play games or run dvd's on it. I'd go for a Creative labs soundblaster live card for the audio.

get a lap top with a good spec, you can then remove it for security reasons then also.

Mini-itx is the stuff you want. You can run them with very little cooling, and they use very little power.

i reackon 7" would look cooler as its more descrete and similar to a normal ps2 setup.
its then not as much of a 'ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh look at meeeeeeee, i have a computer' scenario as a huge 15 incher would be

The thing is for a car system you're not going to find ready made systems as such, especially if you want to hide it. Those mini-itx systems are easy to put together.. the processor is already mounted, and video/sound are intergrated.
I'm not a fan of touch screens, they get mucky, but bieng able to run it all from a touch screen with a mouse/keyboard would rock. Whichever monitor you use it better have a vga connector.. using a tv out will look pants imo. If you can mount the 15" somewhere it'd look class.

Very true, I've got my tv as a 2nd monitor and it's crap for text, but good for video
