does it gain u extra acceleration.

I hope your car still has a syncromesh in its gearbox.... you do not need to do it.

It'll slow you down, not speed you up

Too much fast and the furious for you lad

it's double declutching and is only really needed on larger lorries that have non-triptronic multi-gate gearboxes (most artics have 16 gears).

they depress the clutch, move to neutral, release the clutch. Depress the clutch again and engage gear.

To do it in a car is pointless, will wear your clutch out a bit quicker, slow your changes down and if you cock it up (and you will) then play a hand in your next gearbox change being a bit sooner than it should be.

yes i think thats more like wat he does,

think about it logically, which is quicker?

either putting your foot onto the clutch and putting it from 1st to 2nd then releasing the clutch

or

putting the clutch down from 1st to neatrul then lift off clutch, then press clutch again and move it into 2nd then release clutch.

i think you may fond the 1st is the quickest,

so if it takes longer to do DDC the your gunna loose acceleration

of course, the quickest way is to try and mimic a bike's quick-shift by pre-loading the stick with a tiny bit of outward pressure (not enough to begin disengaging and making the lovely crunch-o-rama noise!).

push the clutch firm but not to the floor, the moment there is enough load taken by the clutch the stick will move and you can slip it in smooth to the next gear, and as the clutch moves up the gas moves down so the revs should match as the clutch engages and you carry on without having to pick up lost rpm's

hth.

thing is paul that you may as well just have the foot toward the gas a split second earlier and still get the blip.

plus the way to do the blip is while the clutch is fully depressed so the revs are high and should just about match road-speed when the clutch is brought out.

slightly slow revving speeds on a car mean timing is quite hard for the average pleb.

but that's just simple performance driving. most bikers do it.

eh? no el gordo - just you explained what I was trying to explain far better. So I removed mine. You must of been replying while mine had disapeared...

I meant what you said, I've also got a bike, and that was the sorta point I was trying to put across, but was finding it hard to do it step by step explaining.

fiddle with random buttons and get confused when you don't have the desired effect, so just start slapping the dash in frustration?

I always thought double clutching was better used for decelleration, like slowing down for a bend, keeps the revs up. (racing use)

you need to release the clutch inbetween when your blipping the throttle

clutch down
disengage gear
clutch up
blip throttle
clutch down
engage gear
clutch out

if your getting it right then there should be no lurch when dropping gears for over taking etc

heel & toe downshifts is what patrick is on about i think, which combines double clutching and braking
