I have a 2.0ltr 16v corsa and am trying to get an MOT for it which isn't proving easy!!! The car has no cat fuel pressure is uprated loads does anyone know any sympathetic garages in the Bedfordshire area?
Does the speedo have to work for the test?
I have 3 point harnesses are they legal for the Test?
Any ideas or suggestions would be great!

3 point harnesses are fine. speedo wont matter as they dont really drive it as for no cat i have the same problem. surely cossvaux must know someone

don't work there anymore lee, so having a nightmare!!! my mate had same problem he had a cat fitted to get it through cost £300 though!!!!!

I thought if the engine was a certain year you didn't have to have a cat? I'm assuming th donor lump was from a GSi then rather than a GTE or did they all come with cats???

very early calibra it didn't have a cat but I haven't declared the swap! so I don't think i can get away with it.

I remember trying to get one for C13. Didn't have a cat in that system & it was all straight through so I didn't want to have the cat welded back in only to have it cut out again.

my cat just bolts on, same as decat pipe, not hard to swap

problem is because the exhaust manifold from the calibra was never intended to fit a corsa system the two parts don't join very easily and you can't connect them with the cat from the calibra in place.

you probably wouldn't its just i can't really declare the swap cos i'm not sure on the history of the engine

the big problem is the engine could be from a stolen car! thats my biggest concern i asume you just give the dvla the engine number and they change the paperwork.

the age of the car determines wether it has a cat not age of engine si it will have to have one even if it does nothing.

R17CH U. i also have the problem of not noing history etc dont want to tell dvla and they come back and says it stolen then have police etc involved

car will not need a CAT the MOT the emissions will be based on the year of the donar car, get them to ring up the authorities and they will tell them the same deal on the spot . You can sometimes check the year of the engine by looking at the stamp on the head under the oil filler cap. Have you not got any log books etc?

Also any decent reputable garrage will know it didnt have a CAT due to the lack of lamba sensors etc. The only time i think emissions could be a problem is if you have a set of Cams as they will throw the emissions sky high

none of the garages round here think thats the case, i always thought they just took it from the engines age too. I have changed cams, and fuel pressure is now 3.5 and has a eds prototype chip in it revs to 8500rpm though. I think i'm bolloxed on this one!!!

Right.

If the engien CAME with a CAT then it MUST have it in still. IF the engien came without a CAT then you dont. I was worried about this and spent ages trying to find out the right rules.

I ended up taking the engines original documentation proving it didn't have a cat and it passed ok. UNless u can get a dodgy garage who will let u off with it then you will need to put it back in im afraid.

the car will not run if u put a cat on it what was not there before . its a bit of a grey area as some garages say it goes off year of car where some say it goes off the year of the engine.

If it came with a cat then it would have had the right brackets on the end of the manifold. If the engine had one when it was int eh calibra then it would have been there before
