Ok I spose we all read the post Bubblevauxmade about his Diesel Corsa C.

I just been this morning and checked out the 1.3 cdti sxi and the 1.7 CDti SRi corsas.

Here's what I reckon...............

the 1.3 feels like a meaty old skool 1.4 hatch, but its quicker than it feels, but check it out , I'm a petrol head and I was surprised....

the 1.7 cdti is a fucking beast, its a diesel, it moves, I'd not be shocked if it was much slower then something like the 2.5 tdi Audi whichI drove.

Still I'd never buy either, but that 1.7 cdti Sri, that is Not SLOW.

yeah but he's comparing it to a 2.5 Audi which is 163bhp & a shed load more torque, maybe u just getting the impression your going faster due to all the torque coming in at low rpm's whereas a petrol is more progressive thru the rev range

Personally Im not a fast driver, I had a real bad scary accident a couple of days before my 20th birthday and thats slowed me down lots. (not my fault, brake disks cracked at rear, making me lose all my faith in car safety)

Therefore I dont need a fast car, but sometimes it would be nice to be able to pull away from an uphill junction

the 1.7 cdti mite only have 100bhp but it has shit loads more torque than a 1.8 125bhp

that means it would propbly beat it off the line but get left behind as speed increaes

and best of all bet u get sum like 60mpg

i wud av 1

1.7dt is 10.5 to 60
1.8 is 8.2 to 60

and that rocket ship that bubblevaux drives does it in 13.5 and a plume of black smoke

I meant, the CDTI 1.7 felt every bit as quick as the Audi 2.5tdi I drive.

Furthermore you bunch of cheeky bastards, I never said a 100 bhp car was fast, and I wouldn't call a fookin Golf 16v fast either.

Corsa SXI albeit tweaked is my second car, I lease a Civic, the quick one........even that I don't class as fast

FAST is under 6 secs to 60 or 14 sec quarter and under anything above that can be catagorised as

So you can all GTF

what people fail to realise is the amount of torque u get from a diesel !! I may be wrong, but this contributes a lot to the performance of the diesel and makes them perform better than the equivilent petrol. It's not all about HP.

i'd sooner have a golf PD rather than the 1.8 turbo. Can get stupid power increases with them. I've heard its all about fuel pressure i think rather than boost on them PD engines.

It all comes down to what u want from a car.....

If u want a sports car, u buy a petrol.

If u want a car that gives good economy, strong motorway pulling, low insurance, then u buy a diesel.

It doesnt really work vica versa, but yes the new generation derv motors are superb, and highly tuneable
