Release Date: Summer, 2005 (wide)
Title Note: (4/14/04) In the tradition of 2 Fast 2 Furious, it's extremely likely that Universal will go with a gimmicky title like '3 Fast 3 Furious' (or maybe 'Fast, Faster, Fastest' or 'Fast, Furious, Finale'? . As of right now, however, this movie will just be listed as 'The Fast and the Furious 3' until some indication of the final title is announced.
Distributor: Universal Pictures
Cast: Vin Diesel (Dominic Torretto) (in talks); other cast not announced yet.
Cast Notes: (4/14/04) In the same way that the second movie followed Paul Walker's character after the events of the first movie, this third film will pick up on Vin Diesel's character from the same starting point (and so, likewise, Paul Walker's character won't be in this third movie just like how Vin Diesel's character wasn't in the second).
Director: Not announced yet.
Director Notes: (4/14/04) There's no word about what director might sign on for this third in the series. John Singleton directed the second movie after Rob Cohen, the director of the first, refused to direct if Vin Diesel wasn't going to star. It's unknown if Vin Diesel's possible involvement in the third movie would attract Rob Cohen to return, but "Variety" reported on March 8th, 2004 that at that point, Cohen had not yet been approached about directing.
Screenwriter: Chris Morgan (cowriter of Cellular)
Based Upon: (4/14/04) This is, of course, the second sequel to the 2001 racing hit, The Fast and the Furious, which was followed in 2003 by 2 Fast 2 Furious.
Premise: After being allowed to get away by his new undercover cop friend in the first movie, fast-driving criminal Dominic Torretto (Diesel) heads down to Mexico where he lives a life as a fugitive, always just 10 seconds ahead of the law. Eventually, however, Torretto makes his way to Tokyo, Japan, which is the world's current capitol of street racing, where he is recruited to help bail out a friend who is in trouble with a powerful group of Japanese gangsters.
Genre: Action, Eye Candy, Sequel, Sports
Greg's Preview Thoughts:
Sort: By Most Recent | Chronologically
4/14/04 - The first movie was a surprise blockbuster hit, especially in comparison to cost, and the second movie did "well," but not necessarily well enough to make you automatically think there would be a third "Fast and the Furious" movie. The way "Variety" reported this situation a few weeks ago, however, is that Universal is ultimately deciding to greenlight this movie because they are looking at their summer, 2005 slate (which recently lost Jurassic Park IV apparently), and judging it to be fairly slim, with only Spy-Hunter, starring The Rock, a sure thing at this point (as sure as a movie that hasn't started filming yet can be). The up side, however, is that they are apparently hopeful that they will be able to get Vin Diesel to return, after he famously turned down the second movie over a demand for a $20 million paycheck. In the meantime, Vin made The Chronicles of Riddick for Universal, which they are apparently happy with, even though it seems to be hovering below the radar just two months before its release. Anyway, I do think this franchise *might* have a bit more steam in it if Vin does return, as his charismatic turn was what I liked most about the first movie, and his absence convinced me to avoid the second.

More like:
They couldnt convince Vin Diesel to be in 2Fast2Furious so they settled for Paul Walker. And they realised he cant act so have tempted ole Vin back with a hefty pay check.
You know im right.

When did i say it would be better than the original???
Just said it could be good if it's based in japan.
Im not a fan of these films, and the storylines are shite. But i dont mind seeing a highly tuned jap car do the quarter mile in sub 10 secs!!!
And if it based in jap land there should be lots of that!!
