Im sure those who dont like me will find this hilarious, do me the decency of not replying though please.
Woke up this morning full of excitement, got the rest of the bits on the car finished and rang Donna to let her know i was coming down (needed to take D5NNA out for a run as its had a new SBD flywheel fitted and new clutch after Carisma fucked it up (BIG thanks to Lee Mitchell)). Found out the car wasn't starting properly, but was just a dodgy connection, fixed and sorted.
Got Donnas car out and got about 50 metres down the road. Shte, Donnas brakes wern't working. Wtf? Limped it to the garage to find the drivers side braided brake hose had snapped in two. To top it off, when we got to the garage the car overheated pissing out coolent everywhere, no reason why though. HEad gasket?????
I shot off down the road, got some new brake pipes and fitted them. Brakes now work SO much better than the braided hoses im thinking of binning mine also and swapping them. Anyway, car was still overheating (D5) and after a long process of elimination, we foudn that the fan switch was knackard. Off i went again, got a fan switch, off came the bumper, intercooler etc. Swapped it over, fucking ace, D5 is working spot on again Germanys still on
Went round the corner to buy another brake hose for the other side of D5 (in case that one snapped), D5 in front, me behined (as it will be this year ) turned into a road and gently applied the throttle. D4MO B cut out, and all of a sudden smoke came bellowing out from behined the dash. Immediatly jumped out and it stopped?? Started fine again so off we trotted to the shop again. Got the parts, and as i reversed out it done it again, smoke bellowing out form the dash. Stipped away the panels to reveil the ECU, looked fine, but the wires above it were fried.
Stripped everything back and the whole ignition cable up the behined the fuse box was exposed. Burnt through all the rubber around it. Done a patch job and took it round to the nearest wiring place round the corner (was scary holding this wire while i drove).
Got there, the bloke had a look, problem time begins
Found out the Engine loom has has been exposed by it bouncing on the altenator bracket causing it to short out down through into the dash, then back along the car loom, under the centre consol and out of sight. Possibly fucked electric loom and engine loom. All the dash in D4 has to come out to replace all the loom (could ahve fried all teh other cables that we can't see). The electrician reckons im damn lucky the whole car didn't go up in flames, "it was a time bomb waiting to go off"
So after all the problems D5 had, D4 broke, had to be towed home and we've lost Germany Ferry company was understanding and allowed us to transfer the tickets so now we will be goign to Hitz Blitz also in germany later in the year.
But its not the point, i've worked so hard recently, been up till 1am getting my car ready, then D5 breaks, we fix it, then mine breaks. I've REALLY been looking forward to goign to this for months now, more than any show i've ever been to.
AS i say, im sure some of you will find it very funny, but to me its like someones ripped my heart out. Anyone who knows me knows how much i love my car. Its worse knowing the car looks, drives fine, but is still now a death trap.
I now have until June 5th to strip the dash out and replace all teh wiring looms in the car
Gutted.
On a better note, might see us in southend in D5NNA on sat.
Gutted

It hasn't, it just was bounching up and down on the altenator braket (sits below ind kit pipe, its very tight, but no-where for it to go) and its just worn through all teh rubber surround and insulation tape.
Im so gutted, but at the end of the day, im glad it happened here rather than 1/2 way to Germany. Sods law it happened today though, its been fine for a year.

Unlucky, sounds like you had a lucky escape if you look at it that way.
Could have been far worse at least its only a trip to Germany you've lost.

What have others done to that section of wiring loom to secure it?
The braided brake lines on D5 should have a lifetime warranty, not sure if it's a limited warranty on braking equipment but worth checking out.

2. Your alive and D4 is repairable as it didnt go up in flames
