I tried removing my centre console the other day but only got halfway before I got scared and ut it back.
The problems I had were that the console itself didn't seem to lift away very easily. I know there are witres connected to the back but I encountered a lot of resistance early on and didn't want to pull anything I shouuldn't.
The second problem was I have Air Con and know the Air Con knob is there to stay.
Can I remove the centre console leaving all three dials in place and not removing them, or do that have to come off?
How do you disconnect the centre console from the connectors behind it?
Thanks,

I took out the centre console on my GLS (non air con) was one of the worst jobs ive ever done. Id recommend that no one try it as it took almost 5 hours to change the bulbs that light up the heater panel!! But if you do want to take it out ask a friend to help you cuz some of the clips are very awkward to re-clip when your trying to put it all back together

What made it even worse was that one of the bulbs was slightly loose so when i went over a bump, the hard suspension made the light turn off. So now only half of the heater panel lights up. No way am I spending another 5 hours trying to make it light up again

I took all my console out to colour code it, i was pretty naive at the time and so went canny gung ho at it!
Air con knob pulls off with minimal force (try not to use a lot or it can smash the little clip) (cos i did!)
The middle knob - pull it out and you will see a little gap in the botom middle, push a small scredriver up and it will pop right off,
Same for the right hand knob as the air con one.
once you have taken out the 4 screws from behind the air vents and removed the 2 screws from the air circulation swith, take the very top cover off and move it out the way so its not bothering you.
Pull the console forward, its not gonna come very far like!,
the heater vents can be pushed back and become seperate from the console
Get a long thin flathead screwdriver and clip off the wires that are connected to the back of the unit, heater, air con etc, the unit should come out now and you can seperate the bits once out,
Be warned though, its a real pain to get back on, so choose a day when you feel relatively calm and chilled.
Hope this helps

Can anyone else confirm to me that the air con knob just 'pops off with a gentle force'?
cos I need to be 100%

Well
This weekend gone I finished spraying my air circulation slide ad like the results - got it quite shiny and smooth. I have always wanted the main bit silver too but 'cos its so tricky to get out I jept putting it off and putting off etc.
Few weekends ago I tried getting the console out but gave up, but now want to try again.
I figure while I'm sanding the damn thing down I may as well get some blue LEDs in there to finish it off properly. I live silver and blue together.
I'll try PMing Cobra on Migweb to see if he's still about.

Where did you get your blue LEDs from? Are they plug and play?
If anyone knows where I can get them let me know Can't see Cobra 148 on here very much.

its clipped in like a bitch, aircon heater control removes easily, same as for the rear screen one.

Thanks for that Kris. Its given me a little more confidence about doing it wihtout being against the clock and knowing the Air Con will budge.
Only question now is...
I want to replace the bulbs in the MFD (Which I know has two) but how many LEDs will I need to do the rest of the centre console - not including the Air Con and Heater Knobs.
Please could you let me know so I can get them ordered ASAP.
Thanks,

I've ordered some plug and play LEDs for this, whcih should be here tomorrow.
Just got two questions:
1) How exactly can I get the two exisitng bulbs out? simply by pulling them?
2) How do I fit the 'plug and play' LEDs in there in their place? Just push them in and hope??
Thanks
