My front 2 are getting near the wear limit marks, but are about 0.5mm away still. I could do without getting new front tyres quite yet, but i've heard stories about getting points on your license if you're caught.
I was wondering what is the truth? and if the tyre becomes Illeegal when its at the limit marks? Or if its still on the border line of legal?

I would be more concerned with the safety aspect.
This things always come at worst time but its not worth the risk

I am concerned about the safety aspect TBH, i dont like going out in the rain at the moment.
I think i'm going to buy my new tyres now, and then get them fitted ASAP.

i didnt get round to getting my tracking done after fitting my coilovers and now my front left tyre is almost bald on one side Car is off the road at the moment anyway cos the radiator blew up, but im getting a new tyre and the tracking done asap. As you said, the safety aspect is very important, thats the reason why the law is so tough. I already have 3 points from speeding on the motorway, and my 2 year probation thing isnt up for another 4 days so i would lose my license for having a bald tyre!

my front two were bald - and driving when dry seemed fine...
In the wet I nearly killed myself so many times - It was quite sudden though, they were gripping fine then one day I was racing my mate to work and theres a roundabout off a dual carriagway that goes under the M4 then back onto dual carriageway to windsor...
It was pissing down with rain - no real traffic about and lights were green... Was doing about 80 - lightly pressed the brakes - knocked it to 3rd and tried to take the roundabout at 60-70 in the wet
turned to take the apex and the car was just sliding sideways Missed the wall by inches and then went to turn the next bit and the car went completely straight - majorly understeering (was fucking close)
Also had a time when in the wet I turned a corner fast and my car just slid into the lane of on coming traffic Then suddenly found grip and snapped back causing me to nearly lose it.
Oh yeh also in dry (as well as wet) doing speed of over 100 would cause the car to feel very light at the front and wander around slightly.
Hence I got new tyres Won't be making that mistake again.

I'm off to get one of mine done now My car wheel spins a lot when wet and reading this post has made me think it's because one of my front are new and the other one has about 2mm before the warning mark.
My spare is on the legal mark so i will put the 2mm one as the spare and get a new one.

swop the fronts and backs around, the rear doesn't wear as quick so the 0.5mm might last, although isn't 0.6mm the min?

I'm not being a wanker here, but you really are a class A Twat mate.
Fair enough a one off, but youve got numerous stories there, especially the racing in the wet around a roundabout/apex.
Are you thick?
Sorry mate but you could have easily hurt/killed yourself and others
