sometimes when braking, not necessarily heavy braking, the pedal starts to click under my foot, feels like the abs kicking in when there is no need for it to kick in, doesnt affect my braking really, just wondered if other gsi owners have experienced a similar thing

Not noticed this Steve, sorry.
Am suffering with a really high-idle in the morning journeys though, sticking between 1500 and 2000rpm until I switch engine off and on again.

Clean your air mass meter out... SHould help sort that out if it only happens in the morning (Cold air)

I'll try that, and I'm also going to blow out all the breather hoses with carb cleaner too.
With regards the ABS problem, it's worth cleaning and checking the connections to the ABS sensors. If they all look good, then i'm sure they can't be expensive to replace - try these guys: www.autovaux.com

I have no C16XE or X16XE pictures, so I highligted it on me 2.0 16v, its in a similar place and looks more or less the same. The best way to do it is to remove the meter from the intake pipe and give it a good scrubing with some tissue, cloth or a toothbrush using wither a specialits carb cleaner or petrol. Get all of the gunk out of it and you should be ok

That's the easiest thing to do, not saying that the sensors are the cause. Worth doing whilst you're there with the V6 calipers tho.
If the ABS light isn't on, it could be a tricky problem to diagnose. If the sensors were faulty you'd think that the speedo (which uses the sensors to calculate road speed) would also be playing up.
Try replacing the ABS relay too, they've been known to go wrong. Should think u could pick up a pattern part from an autofactors for that.

NOOOO!!!!!
Don't go anywhere near the AFM with carb cleaner/petrol anything like that as it will permantly damage the thin bi-metallic strip and you'll need a new one.

Just found this info:
quote:
ABS was playing up and someone very helpful recommended i cleaned all the sensors. upon finding them they were coated in a layer of metal flakes (as they are just magnets really). once cleaned the problem went away.
AND
quote: it was the bracket the ABS wheel sensers were bolted to, both had corroded pushing the sensers into the senser cog, which slowly eat through them and made them fail

hehe, should be ok so long as you don't actually spray the carb cleaner/dowse it with petrol. that on a rag on the gauze should be ok, just gotta be careful!

did you check the discs with a DTI?
even if they are slightly warped you will feel it through the pedal

Right i will give all the sensors a good check over when i do the brake conversion, tis an annoying problem, its deffo not disks cos mine are quite new, as are my drums, the ABS light has never come on to say there is a fault, but it lights up on start up to do its checks etc, have to wait and see i guess
