not bad definately better cars out there for the money, not lightening fast or brilliantly refined just ok-good at both iv always like focus's but just depends what u want it for? leon cupra or cupra r would be a much better bet, all depends whatu want the car for? all out speed? good comfort levels? reselability?
other choices clio 182 (brilliant i love them lol have a 172 tho
civic type r again brilliant performance but maybe a touch unreifned (may not matter to u?
mini cooper s personally dont like but said to be a good car
seat leon or ibiza cupra/cupra r nice fast reliable although i believe the r's are slightly less refined?
get out drive all the above then make your decision

Terrific chassis, best driving position on the market, tidy, clean looks.

Not rapid but then again I don't think they're supposed to be, hence the RS. But thats another story......

its only because i went for a test drive in both the ST 170 and the civic type R nd can't make my mind up
The Ford felt really well built inside and you get a good spec with the comfort pack
The civic type R was alot quicker but getting it into the VTEC range 6000 revs plus makes it sound really boomy and as though the engine will break (although i know it won't).
Inside the CTR felt a bit unfinished although the gear stick is in a cracking position
The biggest factor is insurance as the ST 15 and CTR is 17.
1000 for the ST and 1500 for the CTR. I don't think the CTR is worth an extra 500 for insurance

The CTR is easily the better car, out of those two I'd choose Honda everytime without a doubt. CTR is a lot quicker in all situations, interior maybe a bit bland but its strong and looks ok. Your get used to the vtec but the joy is if you keep it below the fuel consumption is spot on !

yeah i understand what u are saying. i have heard bad reports on paint qulaity on type R
Not after right out pace but with 85% of its torque avalable from 2000 revs on the St170 it felt quite quick and u get alot of spec with them
I want a fast car but insuance issues are the problem and the St170 isn't exactly slow and is the cheapest to insure out of all the cars put forward here
