think my bumpers ahev been done in celulose paint. but i know most people spray in 2pak. whats the difference in paint finnsh? also he spayed the whole bumper including the painted bit will this just peel off?

its not so much of a problem, if prepped right it wont flake off, with celulose paint ya dont get such a good finish and its harder to match the colours but apart from that i wouldnt worry, just dont go wiping it with white spirit lol
Oh and 2pak paint is harder and more durable than celulose when its completely dry i belive

people use white spirit to wipe panels of car clean, like panel wipe, with 2 pak this aint a problem ya can clean panels with it, BUT with celulose the white spirit will actually take the paint off, so you would end up wiping the paint off ya panel

cos its cheaper, plus 2 pak paint is poisonous, ya need like breathing aparatus to spray with it and use it in a well ventilated area

have ya seen the bumpers?, they definately been sprayed in celulose, i really dont think you will notice the difference to be honest. oh when they re-spray cars they do spray over existing paint just key the surface

There's no guarantee that its goona look shite, it is possible to get a good finish with cellulose.
As long as it is all prepped properly then flaking won't be a problem.
How much are you paying to have them sprayed?

im paying £300 for color coding and repairing a scratch. bet he's done the scratch in celulose too. can i still pollish it and stuff the same?

yeah ya can still polish it and stuff that aint a problem if its metalic paint you have to laquer it no matter what paint i belive.

Yeah you do lacquer 2 pac paint, you dont with celly.
You sure you aint mixed the two up. Most places use 2 pac now, celly aparently fades over time. Had a car in at work, the owner had it sprayed by another dealership who used celly, in 6 months it had faded really bad.

Its the other way round isnt it? You dont have to laquer 2pac if its not metallic...infact you dont HAVE to laquer any paint, its just advisable to laquer cellulose as it is not as hard wearing as 2pac. I have just sprayed my bike in cellulose and it came out fine...just dont spill thinners or brake fluid on it!

lol .. 2 pac and celle both need to be laquered if metallics .. u can get straight paints in either which u mix with a hardener and can deytermine wether the mix will be a straight on paint or a base nmeeding laquer .. both paints are poisonous but cellulose is now cheaper as in less demand as 2 paks are less harmfull (as known ) .. but if doin a match job on ur car aslong as the colour code as matched properly u shouldnt have any problems .. also i wouldnt wipe any car with white spirit .. if u want to clean it thoroughly enough go to a paint suppliers and get some panel wipe .. its a mild thinners the u can clean grease etc off ur car without damaging the paint ..

im interested to learn about this as i wouldnt mind doing a little spraying using a compressor, give us some info colour-tec as all my knowlage is just picked up from others and i am trusting them to be correct

dont try and tell me how to mix paint. How many cars you painted?...
Metalic is a 1k base coat paint!!! and does not require hardener/activator.
2k paints are called 2k because they require a chemical hardener to become solid. The finish doesnt requires lacquer and doesnt come in metalic format!...

cheers for clearin it up was only statin wat i believed i knew lol.. but 1 thing .. dont most base coats ie metallics require thinning down etc .. makin them 2 part paint 1 parts thinners .. still being 2 parts of different substances ?
but im sure u no wat u do
im only playin with ya lol . got me paints lil mixed up .. have done a number of cars and got another 2 on the go now as we speak ..

Thanks for that info people, what hes done is mask up the bumpers and use a couple of coats of plastic primer, asfter keying a little. then put some high build primer on to get it smooth.
then taken the masking off and scotch-britted the half that is painted, and is no respraying the whole bumper.
i was a bit worried that it would look like a shite colour match.

jap sri, you have to thin donw most paints anyway or it will clog the gun.
oh i would never prepare any surface with white spirit, its oil based.
and white spirit will not remove cellulose paint, never heard anything so silly.
