i had the same problem with my gsi box, tightened it up and it was fine for a few days. then it went again and couldnt get it in any gear. the thrust bearing just blew it self to bits. put a new clutch in. same thing happened 6 months later. replaced cable tightened up the cable to the max. the pedal is still an inch lower than the brake and fills like its gonna go again. not sure what my problem is thou

SHITE man, that dont sound too good, cos when it first did it all we did was tighten the clutch cable and it was fine, now its gone again so i didnt think it was gonna be that again, looks like it might be though, the thrust bearing comes with a new clutch kit dont it, clutch, cover plate and thrust bearing?, hope this dont need changing cos thats engine out job AAARRRGGG

Will it go into first?
I had the same problem with my Nova once after a rolling road session. Where the exhaust was so close to the plastic ball joint at the bottom of the gear stick the heat of being on the rollers for a few hours had melted the joint.
Its worth checking the gear stick ball joint before you condem the gearbox. Unless you have other problems that I've missed in other threads....

it will go in 1st,2nd,3rd,4th,5th but not reverse, BUT ya have to push SO hard to get em to go in with 1st being the worst
I must admit though the centre consol does get a tad mark sometimes but thought that was normal, plus we had major hassle positioning the exhaust system after the engine transplant maybe it is close i dunno, i will have a look

your clutch is draging thats for sure see if it will go in to reverse with the engine switched off if so tighten the cable as much as you can and prepare your self for a 3 in 1 clutch job soon

i think i know what ya mean, the clutch is draggin on the flywheel, ie not disengaging, when slowing down just before i come to a stop you can feel the clutch/gearbox braking the engine too much and it judders, also judders when pulling away, its booked in with my mechanic on thursday so i will inform ya of the out come, so its back to driving the hairdresser escort cabriolet lol, bring on the let

Aright aright dont rub it in, i admit i was wrong lol, to add salt to the wounds my missus has told me "if you stick a bigger engine in its over" my reply was you will never know, haha, we will have to see, the way i look at it is, if the gearbox has gotta come out the engine might as well and whats the point of putting the same back, might as well be a turbo, im happy in the escort cab, NOT

Well i been scanning around and it seems the old LET turbos are hard to come by as a unit, i gotta buy a whole car, aint got the space for it!!!!, if i go for the C20XE i feel i will be dissapointed as apart from top speed my current engine in its state of tune aint too far off it. If im gonna do it i want a BIG hike in power, bit stuck really. Its not the engine she is pissed about its the money and the fact she is a sun goddess and requires regular holidays abroad, were going abroad beggining of september, 3rd time in a year

I see, well cut it down to 2 holidays a year (I'm going away in september with the missus too )
I think you'd be better off waiting to find a minter LET coz the X20XE are ok but I reckon an LET turbo wud be so much more fun and quicker... vrrrrrroooooommm tsssssshhhh

man that was cheap!! I s'pose the LET's as a rule will have more mileage.. u reckon about £500-600 for an LET with all the gubbins? and around £400-500 for an XE?
