a dealer quoted you £80 to remove it? They're taking the pi$$ outta you mate.
All it takes is perseverence (sp?). Bend some coat hangers together and stick them as far in as they'll go. Bend them both towards the doors and get someone to stick their hand up inside the glovebox and push on the stereo, it'll come out after a while trust me.
Thing is there's nothing that can be holding it in Just a plug but that gets disconnected when you slide the stereo out.

It couldn't b ne bits of metal on the cage perhaps? And what did u mean by sticking my hand up the glovebox? I've had a good look in and around that area, can't find anywhere to stick my hand to try and push the thing out. Can I take sumthing apart to get easier access? This is really bugging me now coz I've got my new stereo and components all ready to go in, just need 2 get this sorted!

yeah you can take the glovebox out mate, there's 2 screws underneath and two when you open it up.
The cage might be stopping it from coming out, but this isnt usually the case.
Try the above method first of all, then let me know how it goes.

I just hit a serious problem. Couldn't get ne luck from the left hand side of the stereo after taking out the glovebox, so tried taking off the panel on the right under the steering wheel... After unsuccessfully fucking around with that and moving it around a bit without managing to get it off, something falls off from underneath the steering wheel. Itz a black plastic thing about 2" long, with a grey button that can be pushed in on one end, and four metal connectors in a square shape on the other end. I aint got a fuckin clue wot it is and I can't find where it went either Does ne1 know wot it is and if so could u post pics of where it should be and how I get it back there?!

one more thing you could try, and this will involve 2 people, while you're pulling on the coat hangers, get someone to jam 2 thin screw drivers at the top and bottom of the stereo. This should be enough to get it out.
Was it a Vauxhall dealer that quoted you £80 to get it out? Mine did it for free. I just walked up to their parts department and enquired about the shroud you need in order to fit an aftermarket H/U, then asked him if he could take out the old one, job done
Is it the 2004 or CDR 2005? If it's the tape one then you can also try and pull it out from here as well.

does it come partly out and then its stuck?? coz i've done a few like that in work...thers a metal bit on top of the cage that gets caught and the more u pull it the more it bends but it eventually buckles and comes out, usually get a screwdriver and beat the livin crap outta the cage. But if its not even moving then buy a set of removal keys and it will come out eventually!!

Richie, ur more than welcome 2 come down and have a go m8!! Take my word 4 it, itz stuck good. I took the glovebox out, and all the panels over on the steering wheel side, still no joy from pushing it from behind.
Took it into a different garage 2day, they had a look and still couldn't do it - so I've booked it in2 Vaux for Mon. I don't give a shit how much they charge me nemore tbh, I jst wanna get it out!
Short of going at it with a sledgehammer I got no other options!
On another note.. I'll b ordering the silver facia adapter at Vaux on Mon when I go in there, how long dya reckon it'll take em 2 get it once ordered?
