Its at Fairford Aerodrome. Was a special chartered flight and only just got off the runway as you can see. Its amazing what short space these planes need to get off the ground when they need to. In the 1991 Iraq war, Kuwaiti airways stripped out one of their 747's for evacutation, filled it with 800 people and took off on a tiny dirt track runway. happens a few times, especially when 747's go to special storage where there is a tiny runway, so they completely strip it of any unwated weight, just so it can land safely.

so doesnt that mean the runway was longer than a std runway?
Why does it reach the very end of it then? u can see the wheels just leaving the ground before the grass..,.

Fairford currently has 2 runways, and one is/was in the middle of resurfacing so that aborted NASA space shuttles can land there. that is 1.6 miles long.

Yea, if you use 10 degrees of flap at take of the wing getnerates more lift at a lower air speed. It is common practice on short runways, grass runways and when you are close to maximum take off weight.

Just so you know, that is 10degree flaps, and you will find that 99% of wide bodies use flaps to take off. Its common practice and more efficient.
