Whatever your budget, get lots of memory and batteries. A good cam isn't good if you've no more room for pictures or there's no power. Budget for this.

As i say to people when they come buy from me, best thing to do is to try out a few yourself and see what you think before buying one. I just bought a Nikon D70 and so far its the best camera ive ever used but then again the price of them reflects this.

If you zoom in and photograph some branches on a sunny day, then blow up the photograph you'll notice it.

If you're not doing this, don't worry

sony cameras dont make sense to me kurtis, expensive memory media, and the f828 is wildly expensive

i was reading a review of the fuji e550 and:

"quality of pictures. It doesn't matter how many pixies;load of features; build like a tank and fast like a bullet, if it doesn't take good pictures. a camera is for taking pictures, if it doesn't takes good pictures, it's useless.

I have since returned the camera and changed to

Canon S1 IS with 10X zoom, Although it only has 3.2mp.

Sept.23/04

I had my new Canon S1 IS 3 days now, took over 50 indoor and outdoor pictures, the pictures are very good, at least I can see the difference of color in the picture rather than mostly gray and blue in the Fuji pictures. I was open try to try another brand, when I saw the spec. on the Fjui E550, I like the camera instantly but the pictures didn't turn-out good."

note - a camera does not always make a bad picture. my second bro in law has one of these and I can take rather good pics with it just like I can take bad pics. most people that use these cameras set them on auto and point and click. this leaves you open to alsorts of problems as the brain in the camera may not be great.

CNET reviewed the Sony Cybershot DSC-F828
- 'The fourth generation of Sony's Cyber Shot F series, the DSC-F828 is also the most sophisticated digital still camera the company has produced to date. Its impressive spec sheet includes an 8-megapixel CCD, a swiveling 7X zoom lens, and a new RGBE filter system that Sony developed to improve color range and accuracy. With great ergonomics, a feature set made for all but the most advanced amateur photographers, and performance that lets it pull ahead of many of its competitors, this model makes a strong first impression.

and i can get memory stick pro 256 - 90quid, or 512 for 140quid
and it even takes compact flash if ya wanna be fussy...!

and i can get the camera for about 500 pound
