I would. The £3k is for a new engine, at worst you'd need a rebuild. It'll still be cheaper, plus you'll get the RA.

If the total cost to you is 2.5k then go for it and get a proper Subaru inspection done, but only if your prepared to spend a bit of money on it.
Personally I wouldnt, but if the moneys there then why not!

I would say go for it but where is the oil from? Can you not get them to say ie rocker cover, head gasket, sump?

In a word Adam...NO...your playing with fire buying a car with a potentially big problem without viewing it for yourself first...

Kerry the Scooby is in no way the same layout engine as a nissan, the rocker cover's are not expensive but the engine ideally needs to come out of the car cos it is very hard to do it in such a tight space(approx 1/2 inch from rocker cover to sub-frame)on both sides.
Adam if it is a leak from the rocker cover on the drivers side dont worry about it, all subaru's suffer from this at some stage in there life time just one of them things with them.
Also a leak from the rear diff is easy to sort out as for any were else theres not many other places they do leak.
And they can take high mileage quite well my uk wagon had about 130k miles and was still pulling strong right through the rev range and also would still do near 150mph...
