... as a prisoner escort (my job), i was sitting in on a GBH trial and nearly fell off my chair when my ex was called into court and entered the witness box
The victim was her boyfriend, i haven't seen him for a while so didn't recognise him when he was giving evidence
The defendant was a doorman (bouncer), im also a doorman - quite a wierd day!

Today was the first day of his trial, should be finished by Friday.
GBH usually carries 4+ years.

From the evidence i heard today i think he may get off. Not guilty. The prosecution witnesses kept changing the stories from their statements.
It'll feel wierd handcuffing a fellow doorman if he gets sent down

It's GBH, GBH with intent is a more serious charge.

I haven't mentioned any names, but courts are public anyway, anyone can sit in on any case, we have reporters in court everyday - so it's hardly a secret
Theres quite a few charges that can be offered for violence... assault, assault by beating, ABH, GBH, GBH with intent, affray, violent disorder etc

No, but you just made yourself look silly.
When you get a suspended sentence you get the sentence, and the period it's suspended for.
So you could get a 12 month sentence which is suspended for 2 years. If you commit an offence within those 2 years you'll get prosecuted for the new offence, plus do 12 months in prison.
All he said was 12 months suspended sentence, not the period it was suspended for.

When a judge gives a suspended sentence he never says 'i give you a 12 month suspended sentence' - he'd say 'i give you a 12 month sentence, suspended for a period of 2 years' (for example)
One time i was in court with a foreign guy who had an interpretur (sp) in the dock with him. The judge said 'i give you 18 months imprisonment...' (at this point the guy faints and bangs his head on the dock), then the judge proceeds to say '...which will be suspended for 2 years'
The guy thought he was going down

I nearly got done for criminal damage, well it got to youth court for a couple of sittings then my solicitor got me off with appologising to the big cheese in local busy station but got a 10 year caution which if broken would re-open the criminal damages case
Also been nicked for kicking sum1's door in and apparantley could have got done for all sorts for that cos' I knocked him out after kicking his door in, but he dropped the charges and made me pay £450 for a new door and door frame he is now a busy
