will be swapping my engine for the gsi one in the next few weeks just wanted to ask the best way to get the old one out and new one in as it says in the haynes the car needs to be raised 650mm to clear the engine.

but i cant find many axel stands or trolley jacks that lift the car this high.
does the car need to be raised this high?

whats the best way to do this ?

cheers

jack car up put axel stands underneath.....

disconnect all the stuff wires/cables/shafts etc

support engine and gearboxes wieght with engine crane.

undo engine mounts

lower engine to the ground.

tie rope to both chasis

lift car up with engine crane

drag old engine out from under

drag new engine in

let car back down onto axel stands (be careful not to lower onto the new engine)

tie rope to engine

lift it up with engine crane to the right hieght

rebolt all the engine mounts

reconnect all wires/cables/pipes/shafts etc.

Are you just swapping the engine and keeping your current gearbox and driveshafts etc or is all getting swapped?

Not out the top, battery tray is welded in, its best to come out the bottom gearbox and engine together, and slot them back in together trust me i have done this a few times, bottom i easier

use your own f13 box, withdraw the input shaft, as per haynes... then seperate the engine and box, lift engine out to put other one in just reverse the procedure

end cap off the box, remove a circlip... then its just undo the end bolt (8mm spline) and pull the shaft till it stops
