Going to attempt building my install

Gonig to have an MDF frame and stretch this certain material over it, so i can cover it in resin and it'll go hard. Then filler and fibre glass it to perfection before certain bits are painted or coated in carbon fibre..

does any one know what this "certain material" is, and where to get it from...?

Thanks

Martin

excellent mate. Can i just use normal resin, eg, the stuff that comes in a pot p38.

Is this what they use in proper body shops then...? Good anough for me, but i cant see as a MASSIVE instal is just done with cotton stuff.

There's a special material called Gemini flock or something that the pro places use.

Just ring up an ICE place and they should be able to supply you.

That might be completely the wrong name tho - sure it begins with a G

Yeah just use the normal resin available from Halfords etc. Completely soak the fabric and let it go off.

You then will need to build up the inside with a nice thick layer of fibreglass for strength.

Thats only on the sub box that it needs to be hugely strong mind.

^^^ My God!

IMO that would sound gash!! Box is FAR too small for two 12" subs and they are both fighting for the same air in that tiny box - no partition / bracing / anything!!

Obviously this is irrelevant though as it is just a guide for making them but my 2p anyway

yes any cloth will work but use something abit thicker than a sheet, as it will sag as soon as u start to apply all the resin.
ive done a few installs now and custom built bits and we use a thick (like the halfords shelf material) and cover it in the resin. the key with fibreglassing is taking time and trying not to get stuck lol

its not a hard job as said just time consuming, and the boxs certainly are not flimsy if they are made well.

Fibreglass installs look the dogs if they are done properly, because you can shape it to however you want, MDF/Wooden boxes are always pretty standard because they are flat. Im going to redo my boot build in fibreglass in the summer when it aint so cold

can make the enclosures, but not 100% on how to do all kindsa 'wickedy bo' shapes.

for example, how would you make a concave shape, how would u stretch it to concave...?

Urm, dont know how good this would be, but i used expanding foam when I made my custom door pods, easy to cut down and shape when its set, maybe this could be useful for different shapes?? If you made the "wikedy bo" shapes separate, and them joined them to the rest of the build?
