Would people with pictures of 2.0 16V engine bays please be able to post pictures or add links to sites so i can have a look at the instalation?
Also when fitting this engine into a Corsa b do you use the doner cars oil cooler and pipes or do you get some bespoke pipes made up?
What have people roughly spent on doing this conversion? (just std engines, nothing producing silly figures)

dont think you really need an oil cooler unless you do a lot of driving at 120 +
check for the thread "new toy" in this section, some pics in there

Oil coolers are standard on every Vauxhall with this engine. Given the fact that this conversion would normally constitute a smaller water radiator than that of the doner cars i think it would be totally necessary to have an oil cooler to aid cooling. Besides, they are thermostatically controlled so only operate when need be.

I can assure you these cars as std do have them on. Was on the EPC today Astra 2/3 Calibra and cav all have them, there are two types listed for the Cav depending on whether a/c was fitted.
If they are not required then so be it. Curious though.

oil cooler were on cav/cally/astra3 afaik. don't think gte's had them, so must be safe to run with out.
i did my own install, and decided to not bother with the cooler. you need a shorter oil filter thread if you want to run without, then you can do away with the whole sandwhich plate.
i did have the part no. around somewhere, but can't seem to find it. someone on migweb will give it to you.

ive had 2 XEs in my corsa, one from an Astra GTE another from a calibra, neither used an oil cooler. Only one ive ever seen one on was a mates cav GSi 2000.
There also more trouble than there worth, on my mates one the oil pipes from the cooler to sandwich plate between the filter and block rubbed on the bottom pulley, which split the pipe and pissed oil all over the engine. Read similar things from ppl on here...

i know that, but if you couldn't find a model that ran without the cooler, then how you gonna find the shorter thread for non-cooler applications?

If what you say is correct then there will also be two unions listed. Generaly the EPC lists thread sizes. Thanks for the info though it helps to know these things before you start.

Cheers mate. I have just been looking at your pics in the garage. they are a great help. Lucky i dont have hydrulic pas or abs to get in the way. Where did you mount the doner ECU ? and did you find the wiring a ball ache?

wiring wasn't too much ball ache once i'd spoken to Lee Mitchell off of here. pretty staright forward, just match the colours in the footwell, there's only a couple of rogues that need more attention than that.
funnily enough, my ecu has been loose since fitting the engine untill now, but i actually secured it just this afternoon.
quite a hassle to be honest. the cally one is way larger than the corsa one. i pushed it up as high as i could, and just managed to get the kick trim over it, but i can't see how it would be possible to get it to sit right with the rubber seal overlapping like it's supposed to.
it's almost there, but can't seem to get the last bit clear.
i managed to unclip the plug with my foot last week, and couldn't work out why my car had cut out.
AA patrol man showed me perfectly the way to plug it back in again
bays without the pas bottle and abs unit look so much tidier. should imagine they're easier to mount the coil also. lucky my battery is quite small.
hope it all goes well for you.

all the 20XE's had oil coolers on them. Unless you're giving the engine continuous high rpms then you can urn the engine without. If you're trackdaying it then keep it on there, and esp if you're running TB's.
They are easily removed or fitted, there is just a sandwich plate where the oil filter is, you undo it and replace the thread part with a shorter one.
Personally I'd keep it, it's not doign any harm beign there.
to fit it you need to make a bracket it up to mount it too, it will site just in front of the rad and go past is on the front left of the bay. Cav's and callys and MK3 astra had it at the bottom and MK2 astra at the top.
conversion cost so far has been 300 for engine and box, 100 for engine mount. hubs and shafts with the engine, machine of hubs and new bearings was 90 all in. then cut the flanges off the cat and manifold and then they mated.
(not including the TB's and management though)
