"Happened just round the corner from my house. Was going to a shop after fitting my wheels and thought i would make sure they weren't rubbing or anything. Was going round a long sweeping left hand bend at a reasonable rate of knots, backed off as a roundabout was approaching and the whole car started snaking all over the road At one point i thought i had it back and then it just swerved to the right violently accross the path of an oncoming sprinter van, hit a large kerb, across the grass verge and sideways into a lampost! It then continued between 2 big tree's and came to rest when it hit a grass bank!!
The car is proper fooked as the floor, roof,a post etc are mangled and i somehow managed to snap the gear lever with my back and bend the clutch peddle and steering column It also snapped the rack"

no, it is belived the how car had been involved in a crash before hand

the whole rear of the car was out of shape before the crash, as one wheel sat 2" further in the arch than the other, the previous owner had fitted a spacer to try and hide the fact of what had happend before

Well, sorry mate but that was just asking for trouble then. I know, get a fucked shell, fit a spacer on 1 wheel and give it stupid amounts of BHP

If it wasnt found til after the crash, wouldnt alarm bells be ringing when you see the fact one wheel is sitting 2 inches further into the arch? If i personally had realised that, i wouldnt be driving anywhere til i found out why.

taken from spadges post on PF

Lol so the fact that the nearside rear wheel, hub.coil over etc...were 1 inch nearer the chasis rail than the offside one was my imagination then I told you this on the phone weeks ago and you pleaded ignorance! Also you had fitted a 10mm spacer to the offside to make it less aparent. I even swopped that side rear arm the other day as i suspected it may have been bent and this made no difference Also one of the coil overs that you had fitted to the rear only (with standard suspension front!) was bent and no doubt caused by whatever else it wrong at the rear end.
I actually said in one of my previous posts that you may not have known about these problems but maybe i was being too kind After what you posted above and the insults contained within i'll be totally honest and say you knew this car had a major rear end problem but just didn't give a fook as you didn't do corners

Im not digging at you mate, but im assuming he fitted the spacer when fitting his new wheels. Most people would step back and think wtf, somethings a little wrong there why do i need a spacer on one wheel??? By fitting the spacer thats just covering up the fact there is a problem rather than dealing with it.

what was it on a q plate for tho - had it been involved in an accident and written off - hence the q plate - or was it deemed to be a kit car??? - if the first is the case then surely he should have suspected something was wrong.....

also whats the difference between a standard shell and a gartrac one??

superb, in that case, when the ferries start up again after the calais port is fixed, i believe we need a pre-PVS meet, quick round trip on the ferry for cheap beer, fruit machines and laughing at the french.

all gartracs are q plates

gartrac where a company that took mk3 and 4 escorts shells and converted them to RWD for rallying puposes so they could provide an allternative to te ageing mk1 and 2 escourts
