Roughly how many processes should i have running because my comp is being strange and is running 35 at the minute, just wondered what the norm is?

42 thats for me, i can close 6 of them down as they dont need to be running, depends how many other programs you have running. i.e msn,downloading software etc.

its differnet for every computer, but the norm should be 25-40 more or less. i wouldnt worry too much on HOW MANY u got running, just be concerned which ones you're running.

26 on my, although ive tweaked my services and everything to stop shite loading up that i dont need etc etc - less services and processes = faster system

robbo, 58 mate i would check some of them and see if there not spyware shite

i got 56 have got spy ware on but stupid spy ware scanner dont do shoot, have got istsvc.exe or something like that which is a bugger to get rid of apparntly, just cant be bothered to do anythign about it really, i can run a spy ware scanner, and it'll pick up say 20, 10 mins later it'll pick up thesame 20 again

download "AdAware" and "Spybot: Search and Destroy". Each finds spyware that the other one doesnt. The reason they keep coming back, is (im assuming) you dont have a firewall. Download one. I have Zonealarm, its free and does the job well.

Another reason that you have loads of spyware, is that you're probably clicking adds, or on "websites" that do it without your consent. If you wanna stop this, download the web-browser "Mozilla Firefox" and it automatically blocks pop-ups etc. If you cant be arsed to do that, download the google toolbar. Its really handy as you can search from the little box on the bar, and it blocks popups too.

28 on mine, i had to keep print servers on or my printer wouldnt work also goddamn norton throws a wobbly if you switch off DCOM process

If you are having running problems, get a program called hijackthis, and remove stuff which looks dodgy.
