To me this is pointless, why own a car if your gonna do that to it , this car was built to be driven , if he wanted to do this then store a normal ford escort not one that needs to be thrashed.

I sort of agree, its the type of car id want to keep away from the rain, winter etc, but durring the sumer it would get thrashed

Other than the performance factor, the car's not that special. For the same price in today's terms, you'd get a car full of toys (no, not Michael Jackson's car...).

totally agree with nisimo and jr, keep it away from the winter and give it a good thrashing in the summer.

He would have been better investing the £20k 10 years ago and most prob would be worth £30k

They were about 25/26K actually Jimbo.

And I wouldn't be surprised if this was one of GGR's little money spinning ideas.

This is probably one of their's and I wouldn't be surprised if they'd stock piled a little store of them at cost price from Ford when they were new, only to sell off at a tidy profit a decade later.

Nice little nest egg.

Shame about the sh*t colour and the airbag steering wheel though.

Winder windows is a good sign though, that means probably no sunroof, i.e. no leaks, more head room and a stiffer shell. Sadly not motorsport shell (they were all white), but deffo unusuall and preferable if you're a race boy rather than someone into his toys.

Would love it but would have to get rid of that wheel and would cringe from the colour.
Realy should be white or black.
Or maybe on a late one, that Auralis blue, V. nice.

No mate, motorsport shells were bare white painted strengthened shells with welded cages directly from motorsport division.

You could either have bought one of these or what was classed as a 'trimmed' shell.
These were the basic (preferable) non sunroof shell (also in white) that came with all looms, plus glass, lights, door and 1/4 panel cards, dashboard, sound proofing, carpets, and spoilers.
In fact everything but engine, all running gear, wheels and seats.
These were preferable and ideal for economic reasons if you were going to clubman race or enter grp N where as the motorsport shells were for international rallies, and would have been supplied to people like Graham Hathaway Racing for engine install - supplied by Mountune usually (motorsport engine gods), and final prep.

Both shells were approx 6.5 - 7.5K when new in 1993 depending on spec.
I know this because I investigated it pretty seriously at the time (still got Motorsport build manual and part number lists) as I was going to build a road car using a new shell and a salvaged Sierra 4X4 or a combination of new and used bits, but turned out financially to be totally out of my reach in the end (badly let down by solicitors in 5 year long personal injury claim).

Will deffo do it one day though, probably won't be able to find a motorsport shell now though.
Will just have to settle for the next mint unused white or black road car that comes along when i've next got 25K to burn along with endless spending on engine build and prep.

But the true enthusiast would want to drive it, making the whole point of paying £25k for that a waste of time.

Better to do like as said earlier and buy one at half that price and enjoy driving it.

Same engine but thicker block like the 4X4 Sapphire so just as good.
Unfortunately the later version with the silly silver cam cover comes with a smaller (gayer) turbo to reduce lag, so you'd have to bin that right away.
Got Ford engine management aswell I think so you'd have to look into having that dealt with.
Better off with a '92/'93 car rather than a '96.
