Im getting really badly attacked by spyware at the moment....... spybot/ steganos/ and adaware have all failed to deal with the problem. I am using xp

Basically this is what is happening.

About every 30secs i get a pop up offering all sorts of things.. poker/ viagra/ virus shields ect.... I get an option to close or connect--- which ever one i choose i am moved onto internet explorer to a search engine with the results of my search. This is happening when i am connected to broadband----- AND ALSO WHEN I AM DISCONECTED. I assume this is spyware attack

I have been using firefox for ages so i tried to delete internet explorer--- this seemed to work because the pop ups stopped instantly.....however as soon as i rebooted the computer internet explorer reappeared in programme files and the pop ups also returned.

It now wont let me delete it due to a file called 'connection wizard' within the internet explorer folder.. --- i assume this file is where the problem is coming from... everything i delete in this file just keeps coming back when i reboot. I deleted IE from add/remove programmes and it now no longer appears on the list of programmes here.... this means i cant delete it at all.

How the hell can i sort this out... I know very little about computers so your advice will have to be idiot proof

You can't delete IE on XP. Well, you can, but it's not a great idea.

few things...

1. have you updates all your spyware programs and then performed full scans?

2. have you cleared your internet cache?

3. have you got an anti-virus? if so is it up to date and have u ran it?

4. it will be simple to fix so dont go to the bother of uninstalling IE

does it look like a windows popup, or a webpage? If its more like a windows diaglogue box, go to start, run, "services.msc", find messenger, go to properties, and disable it.

Yeah it looks more like a windows pop up, but it might just be an imitation of a windows pop up to make it look more genuine--- have tried what you said-- and im still getting them...... i went to messenger properties and changed the start up mode to disabled from manual---- is this all i should have done?

yes m8, use a firewall for start, do u have msn messenger ifso update to the latest version as thats were most popups come from, also as sombody else said got strat run msconfig select startup an then goto www.processlibrary.com an type in each one of those on the start up an it'll tell u what it is an if its safe to remove it from the start up, also try quiting msn messenger if u have it and see if u get any pop ups then any more probs email technician@hotmail.co.uk thats me or keep posting here

Download + reinstall IE, it's worth it. It found 4 nasty trojans on my machine that both spybot and adaware missed.

Try downloading this program:
http://www.spychecker.com/download/download_hijackthis.html

Run it and post the log in here! Otherwise everyone is just guessing and that will take you nowhere!
