I did a little service on my car last week, chnage oil etc, and also cleaned out my ICV. It was all working beaitifully til a few days ago when it started to act like before i cleaned the valve.

then yesterday the engine manegment light flickered and then finally stayed on. it started ot idle very high then, i dont have a rev meter, but id guess 2000 rpm

i thought id buggered up putting the ICV back on properly, so i jacked it up to check, but all the wires and pipes are there and ok (i think)

so i did the paper clip test and got 3,1,-,3,1,-,3,1,-,5,7,-,5,7,-,5,7,

then i looked it up here

31 and 57 tell me Engine RPM signal (crankshaft sensor) No signal and Idle Speed Control Valve (ISCV) Interruption respectively

so what exactly does this mean, was it my fault, and how do i fix it?

thanks everyone

the wires are in, and the pipes seem to be attached, although i had trouble with these as i didnt have much room.

do u think i should just reattach it, or will i need a new one?

Replied on MIG as well! The pipe coming off your ICV that connect onto the inlet manifold is the one you need to be looking at on the ICV when you test it. A constant postitive and negative terminal wont do alot of joy when you test it with a battery. I think it might be opertaed by pulses of electricity, so i tried taking the postitive on and off which made it do its stuff, not 110% sure on that though.

It will make a clicking noise as it goes back and forth. Look down the pipe on your ICV that should connect to your inlet manifold, see what happens.

Is your ICV set correct? It should be sealed anyway and unable to touch the thread.

I'd say a 12v battery mate, do you have a battery driven drill at home, im just using the battery off one of them.

Well it might have been getting stuck closed or open, i'd add some WD40 in there, wont do it any harm, stand it up on the end where you plug the lead into, just allows the WD40 to soak in.

The pipe at the top circulates back up into the inlet pipe that goes into your throttle body and the other piece drops into your inlet manifold.

No worries, your ICV is set right, when you have no power to it it should be slightly open, this correct?

What happened with mine was it getting stuck, you should be able to open and close the valve by means of a screw driver, mine wouldn't move it was solid, seems fine now though.

As that bloke said on mig, only touch it to see if it is opening. If you put a screw driver down the feed that goes back upto your inlet pipe that drops into your throttle body.............on the ICV........you'll see a round disc look think and a seal around its perimeter.........only light movement of the screwdriver to push the ICV clock wise should move the valve that you can see on your other feed that drops back into the inlet manifold. If that works you should be good to go, make sure all connections are clean, WD40 them if you have some, if its getting bad signal from voltage pulses it needs to vary how much it opens, it wont open to the correct amount.

ok, lights gone out, but now its idling ridiculously highly, higher than before. id say its now pushing 3000rpm

but as i say the lights gone out, so id have though it should be normal. is there somethin else which would be setting the idle rate so highly?

even when im changing gear the revs shoot up. i cant really drive it in this state its just silly
