If you watch the gumball films / that bull run copy that was on ftn recently - you'll notice the cars that generally arrive first aren't necisarily the quickest as the others are getting pulled over all the time.
a 2 cv finished on time on last years gumball.
So I don't see what's stopping people joining the convoy (apart from no hotels and ferry crossing being unplanned), but would be entertaining all the same.

The reyland was amazing was out running some dude in a ferrari (who got pissed and drop his car into a dealership on the way to get some mods done ).

The main point of the convoys is the whole comradery between the entrants, the parties in the hotels, etc.
Just tagging along would be pretty boring.

would love to enter something like this though, with something like a caterham or westfield (canne afford a decent sports car ) - but i recon you need a serious credit card to go with it all though
