Just been doing a bit more sound deadening removal & I've come across this

Im not having a good day today am I?

Looks to be next to the fuel tank, I hope its not leaking. Seems like a strange place to be rusty though

Would imagine that the rust would need to be removed, the metal treated and then plated. Shouldn't be too expensive to do that....

It seems to be more than just surface rust but it hasn't gone all the way through. I was due to have some other work done on it so I might get a quote for repairing it

Glad I've found it now

It's an MOT failure to have rusted section within a certain distance of sny load bearing suspension structure - not sure on the numbers, just know the rule from workin on the old Triumph.

Ahh don't worry about it.

Just get it chopped out plated up and it will be fine.

Cost you £100, but I would get it done sooner rather than later as its right on the suspension turret.

While your at it, take a look at your spring seats on the rear as they are bad for rusting as well

Also the chassis legs, they go on every Corsa ever Just get the Waxoyl out on the underside of the car after giving the rust a goot brushing off with a rotary sander or brush type thing....

Anyone know where the fuel tank is in relation to the rusty area?

Could it be a leak from the petrol tank?

the fuel tank is right under the rear seat area.... dont think that rust is causeed by leaking fuel cos the fuel would have to be shooting up plus the tank is a bit further forward than that area...

i'd say thats a MOT failure though

petrol wont rust the metal, but I'm guessing will be a sealing problem or similiar, or the underseal in the rear arches worn away... maybe when suspension was fitted could of chipped a lil bit of underseal off with them being rough with it

as said, cut it, treat it & plate it, not a real big job, just a bit time consuming thats all...

Only rust I can find 'inside' mine is in the spare-wheel well, and a little bit of paneling below the boot where the sealings not been done properly (silicon sealing, not the boot-hatch rubber)

but ye, front chassis legs are slowly starting to go around the lower cross-member, so may be worth checking yours too matt just incase!
