I'm wanting to add 2 extra subs into my install, I want some smaller subs because the 15" one is really slow, but sounds pretty good - no doubt it will be better when I power it with a proper amp.
I was thinking of getting 2 10" JL's, as I'm going to be using these with the 15" would I be better off using 2 8" JL's perhaps, or would the 10's be a good combination with the 15"?

I want something that will give a harder thump, my old 12" was good at doing that, the 15" is less defined, but bloody loud! It sets car alarms off so I think I'll keep it
What do 2 8's sound like on thier own? They must be pretty fast and good for really quick beats....

This is mine. My old install used to hurt at full whack, this one is fucking loud, it just doesn't give you the kick in the back I wanted. I think one problem is my amps are fried, going to get some BBG amps I think, maybe some JL e series ones, yet to decide. The good thing about the smaller subs is they are only about 150 watts so they can run happily off of a 2 channel amp

what front are you running?
As ive got a 13 W6v2 and that covers the deep notes well but cant cope with the punchy notes aswell as a smaller sub could, but uve got the JL 3 ways up front which compensate for that!
if you are thinking of adding the 8inchers i would reckon they would sound best if they where up front rather than nearer the 15!

I'm going to have some 6.5" components up front. Could even put some JL 6" subs in the door

yeh that would be good aswell!
its gonna sound best i think if you leave the deep notes at the back and let the fronts punch away!

Ah right, what about having 2 10's in the back, I really really want to do something with those ugly bits of plastic that held the parcel shelf on
Have you heard the 6" JL's go? i'm interested in them, they look wicked too

ive personally not heard JL 6inchers, but ive heard focal polykevlar 3 ways in 2 cars now and they have a 6inch woofer and a 6 inch mid and then a tweet and they have 2 crossovers per side and they are mighty!
the first set i heard where coupled with 2 12 W6v2s and the sound was just awesome!
silly loud bass gets boring after a while!
well it did to me i find it much more satisfying having quality clear fronts with not as much bass!
if your looking to do something with those panels take inspiration form that 06 that had glass panels with an emergency kit in, it had a small bottle of jack daniels and a cuba cigar, something quirky like that!

Cool, I think I might try some high quality components (Corb has some of those Focals for sale actually) run off some high quality amps first, see how it all runs. I don't want it to be all bass, I want it to be bloody loud though. I like to be able to 'feel' music as well as hear it
I'm thinking of doing an in-car PC for sat nav becuase I can get hold of 12v USB touch screens, that could go in the plastic thingies.... The could do something fun on the other side.

Steve did apparently get just under 140 db with this install when it was all JL actually I think....

It is..............unfortunately I dont have the real high end stuff though, some of their speakers are reasonably priced.
If you are after new components you could do a lot worse than to have a listen to them

that 15" is ace though - I remember steve basically supplying all the music on the camp site at PVS and the next day when he was cleaning his car - I was standing on top of a hill really far away and it sounded like music was being played next to me. The clear ness and loudness is ace.
Just get some 8s or 10s that generally make a thump noise.
