formatted the pc a few weeks back, and its all been fine, but the past 2 weeks ive had problems when trying to go into my music, and media player, its been taking ages to open, and ive only got a fraction of the music i had before i formatted, it usually comes up with " not responding"
everytime i try going into my music, if i drag a file over to D: it takes about 4 mins to copy it over, whereas beforehand it was instant?
if i am on msn and got media player running, and do ctrl+alt+del its using bout 75,000k
its really doin my head in cos its taking me about 20 mins to write a data disc, and im having to end process everytime i go into my music
any ideas?

press ctrl alt & delete and go to the processes tab and arrange the CPU numbers to highest first and see what's using up all your resources.
Might be an idea to make sure you're up to date with windows' security updates?

could be a number of things
hard disk on the way out
virus
spyware
dodgy block of ram
is you processor constantly on 100% usage?
how much hdd space is left? if none then your paging file wont be working

When the PC freezes hold CTRL, ALT + DEL to run task manager. Then click on the processes tab to see what it is that is using the CPU (you'll probably find its one thing) Make a note of the process and then end it. Find out what the process is and then uninstall and reinstall. It could be another program that is trying to start up when you play music and causing a conflict.

no you mean you probably dont have much spyware, you could still have a virus, spyware doesnt check for virusses

If you want some good software that checks for spyware/adware
I recommend downloading this: http://www.spybot.info/en/download/index.html
Really good free software

Format and start again. You haven't got much to backup since you only recently did it so better to get it sorted now rather than leaving it until you've got shitloads of stuff again.

to be honest I reckon you may have some sort of virus/spyware on your pc.
My gf parents pc was going really slow and took ages to load anything like internet explorer.
I ran the free software above and it found 400+ unwanted programs running on the pc
The software removed them and it was quick again until they came back again as they use McCrappy (McAfee) as there firewall/Virus program and its utter crap.
I have used Norton internet security for 3 years now and had zero problems. But even better get a hardware firewall
