sounds good to me whats the mantzel like?
you said all the power is top end? is there any increase in torque?
what 1/4 mile would a stripped one run at a guess?

low 15's if your good.... high 15's if your not...

It's pretty much a top end rev thing, any cams worth fitting will be working best up the revs too....

so.... ARP's and metal idlers will be a good idea

throttle bodies

i'd prefer a mantzel over carbs just for the hassle of setting up carbs, poor mapping (i.e none), fuel econ etc....

The only difference is that Dieter Mantzel is retired now, and the paperwork took a lot of time, a lot of people thought that they were gone, but the place has been running all the time.

They are busy with a new showroom and changing the whole place.
And also a new website...

But if somebody had phoned them or send them an email, you would had seen they were there all the time

if you after driveablity just stick with a standard engine

Carbs.... in my eyes..... are a bit of a step back in time.... ECU's are usefull

Fair enough carbs on a big snorting v8.... but this is a 1.6 4pot thats got heaps and heaps of daft sensors

throttle bodies..... much wider, flatter torque spread.

Mantzel is peaky.....

Do it in stages if you cant affors it. 3k will get the TB's on and mapped.....

the car will still go well on std cams etc.

Any cams that are worth fitting require new pistons anyway, or your existing pistons machined with pockets to allow your valves to work.

no it isnt.... just extra cost for mounts, shafts etc

If i was to do a 1.6.....

stage1:

Fit TB's and map
fit ARP rod bolts

Stage 2:

Pocketed pistons, alu rollers, cams (270+)
re-map

stage3:

crank, flywheel and gearbox mods

most people that have carbs don't see great gains as they don't have them set up properly - also fuel economy usually really really suffers...

with a mantzel your looking at a guarenteed power gain that's not bad.

as Ak says go for TBs

Stage 5:

take pics, show corsasport, await blessings which help extend ego, include some pics of car owner drinking beer and/or pulling a silly face

Grrr, people on this board annoy me when they make up stories of companies going under before actually knowing the facts, I found it strange how Mantzel a successful company which has been running for years would all of a sudden collapse.

What makes it worse is that Courtney stopped advertising Mantzel items so made people think they HAD gone under.

Its excellent news and a big thank you to our Dutch friends for pointing this out to us
