heard dodgy things also about steam cleaning engines, isnt 100% safe.

I know lots of people who had it done
So long as i cover relevant undesirables that i dont want to get wet. Should be fine.

it wont screw you car over if the people know what they are doing. I did mine myself once just got a steam cleaner and covered up the:
Dizzy
Battery
Covered the spark plug bores
Fuel relay
Coil
then let loose and the finishing reasult was:
this was three years ago now....as it looks like this now:

I work at a vauxhall garage I steam engine bays everyday never covered anything up as most cars have DIS ingnition now so no dizzy
even if they have a dizzy it only needs a blow out with the air line to remove condensation
They spray some autoglym vynal and rubber cleaner on the plastics and rubber hoses and it will look mint!
we charge £10 for engine bay
done it for 3 years and never had one car come back with any problems whatsoever

Air filter? I have no cover on my dizzy so i guess i need that doing

cover dizzy
fuel relay
put a plastic bag under the spark plug cover to stop water seeping down the bores
cover coil
remove air filter
remove or cover battery
cover coolant temp sensor
cover or remove Air flow meneter as these are £150 new fro, shinee and that cheap for a LET
and steam clean away

jus wrapped the dizzy with a plastic bag

i have already used gunk but it so tight and fidly in there steam clean is only way as im not spending my 2 weeks off cleaning my engnine bay.
Its getting done on thursday so wish me luck

good luck will come up mint... i jetwash engines all the time and never had one bad experience.....don't keep petrol engines running....and diesesl can either be running or not use a mix of tfr and degreaser and will come up mint (Y) ohh yer and hot water thru powerwash!!!

opps.... i did mine n didnt cover nethin (gsi). i just left the engine runnin while i did it. havent had ne probs at all from it
