are you sure the engine is fucked?
some mechanics like to earn a bit of bonus, if you get what im saying.
and if it was headgasket, it would be more than likely that the piston(s) and valves would be washed

thats bollocks
VW dealers can simply not diagnoise something like that just to earn a bot of bonus
with engines, that are exchange units like these, its is more cost effective for the cusotmer to pay for an exchage engine, that for them to pay of the laubou to stip it down, and change the bits, it actully come to less, there fore helping the customer, and not riping them off

not really.
i used to work for a main dealer and ive seen repairable engines just get passed off as fucked cos the mechanic makes his money and so does the dealer.
at the end of the day some mechanics would rather get 8+ hours to be fitting an engine, than 4+ hours stripping it and changing 1 component.
+ if your working on an engine job all day you dont get the shit jobs off the shelf, like re-fitting seat covers or something

exactly my point how hard is it to change an exhaust valve, manifold, and sort out the low piston? it dont need a new engine at all

if it was my car i would replace the piston and conrod (would get crank checked for bow though) and replace exhaust valve and manifold. piece of piss really. only problem is.... you did'nt strip it meaning it will be a hell of a lot harder to put back together
