Got the car MOT'd and taxed yesterday, drove it for the first time. The lastnight i went to take a girl out that i met lastweek, drove to hers (about45/50miles) picked her up, got about 2miles from her house and the car was makin a funny noise and loosing drive, pulled over and the bloody back wheels had locked on.
Phoned recovery only to find out that my policy wouldnt take me home and only take me 10miles from where i was and to get home would cost £90 I was not told this when i took out the cover with my insurance Anyway the recovery bloke came out and i decided to let him take it back to there garage and get a quote done for it today; as if i didnt want them to do the work i could pick it up by trailor myself.
Got the call thismorning and its both the rear brake master cylinders, pads and handbrake cable; gonna set me back £300 and i dont get it back until 2morrow
On the plus side tho, as was so far from home went back to the girls house and stayed over and helped me take my mind of my forthcoming bill

does make you wonder, did get an advisory that the handbrake cable was starting to fray but that was it, and should have lasted more than 50 miles!!!

£300 is very steep, master cylinders are about 40 quid each, handbrake cable 15 quid, shoes 20 quid
£115 for parts, so hes charging you £185 to fit that?
The shoes can be replaced at the same time the cylinders, should be no more than £60 labour for that, plus about 15 quid labour for the handbrake cable
£200 all in

Well its £225 plus VAT, so under 300. Yeh i thought i could have got it cheaper but the car is far from home and would have cost £90 to get it home latnight, then would have had the hassle of gettibg it to another garage and prob would have ended up costing the same if not more

so its more like 200quid to be fixed, not 300
hope it gets sorted either way, redtop in it?

£300
rear brake cylindres: £7 each
rear pads: £12
full handbrake cable: £24
(just did this lot myself, so prices are fresh in my mind) so thats a total of £50 for parts, £250 for fitting
i would argue with them over that price mate, thats bordering on criminal. should take 2 hours labour max to fit that lot.

seems dear...
what £25 hr labour x 2 = £50
parts even at £50-£100
150 at most
