no the ratios were suited for the Turbo, to account for boost timings. the F28 is overkill on an XE, as HP said, F16 or F20 much more suitable

Yeah, I remember Petes! Didnt suit the XE too well. F20 is a much better choice!

I got an F20 put in my old Corsa (200bhp+ XE) after breaking the F18 that Id put in originally. The F20 was mint but the ratios in mine were very different from what other people told me about the F20? Flat out on the limiter in fifth at 8000rpm it would only do 139mph???? That was on Redlines timing gear at Brunters as well!!! Was flat out on the limiter was before the braking point too!!

Bizarre innit? So even if you buy an F20 you dont know what ratios you will get? I imagine different cars got different ratios? Cav v Astra v Calibra?

Dont get me wrong, I loved it. With the TB's it would pull from 25mph in fifth, Id get some fcuk nugget in a VTS in second screaming its tits off and Id just stay in 5th and still bum it!

Would be interesting how you could find out what ratios your getting?

Couldnt believe it at the Redline thing, was expecting 150mph as Id only put the box in that morning, thought it was a misfire when I hit the limiter at less that 140mph!

You can have an F20cr or an F20... it doesn't even say if it's a close ratio box on the gearbox, it just says F20, so it's kind of a supprise

Right, a "long" F20, will have almost the same ratios as an F28.

In each gear the F20 will do a couple of MPH more than the F28, then the F28 has sixth on top.

Hope that clears that up!

There are a few variations of the F20 though.

If you want a six speed box on an XE I'd also look out for the F25 from a Vectra challenge car (quite rare!). This has some mad ratios, comes with a diff and is straight cut, but weighs more than an F28. Also it has a longer casing which may make fitment on a Corsa a bit difficult?

so the F28 fitted to a 20XE will improve acceleration over an F20 fitted one?

the f28 was only on the turbo's as when your on motorway the revs are less in 6th for economy purposes wasnt it? as in, it aint in boost under normal driving.

my f20 on my corsa xe pulls 65 in 2nd and flat out abut 140ish on limiter in 5th at 7k ish revs.

tim, whats the f28 doing on the limiter in 5th? hit it last night, reckon its over 135 with a gear to go

IIRC 7500rpm with 195/45/16's is mid to high 150's.

Your right about the sixth gear. I had a big technical book about calibra/cav turbo's (which I've just given back) and it was basically saying the sixth was for economy purposes, so the car is at low-ish revs at 70.

Mine pulls 64 in second.

At 7500 in sixth it's 186mph if you have the balls Obviousally you have a higher rev limiter

im only on 1 bar of boost at the minute still, rev limit is 7k i think on these phase 2 chips.

ive had 6200rpm in 6th a few time, reckon thats hitting 160ish?????

dont really see how an f20 would last on a let engine as mine is in and out of gears all the time, so much power and tourque

My aritmatic for 6th would be 6x25, plus 1/5th of 25 (5), so 155 I make that?
