how easy/hard would this be ??
as im gonna be keeping the car for a little while yet, i want to make a wee project out of it
big BHP and RWD sounds too cool for school
wanna make the engine real strong and make the car light weight (but still ncie to drive) then up the boost and stuff like that..
so how much, and what is involved in making a corsa RWD ???
cheers peeps

Would be mazin if you did. Theres a RWD C20XE Corsa rally car in Total Vauxhal this month, has the engine mounted longitudinally and think (not 100% sure) it uses Cossie running gear?

As far as I see it there are 2 options. You can......
Use Manta GTE drivetrain, which would have a 5 speed gearbox, propshaft and a solid rear axle with the differential sitting inside it. This is a really heavy set up, and I don't think it is really up to the job of transfering 280bhp to the ground. On the plus it has been done before to a few cars, there was a Nova at PVS with this conversion...
The other option is to use the drivetrain from an Omega V6. There you get a 5 speed gearbox again, but this time it will be much stronger, a propshaft and a rear diff with driveshafts.
As this set up is desgined to handle the torque from the V6 engine it will be more than strong enough for the LET. One problem is the propshaft will need to be shortened and you will have to widen the front and rear track of the car because the Omega is wider than a Corsa.
In fact, I don't think there is and reason you couldn't use the drivetran from a Sierra. You can get bellhousings for the Ford gearboxes which mate up to Vauxhall engnies...

yeah was chatting to a few of the nutters at Trax...
would have to mount the engine round the other way.. then get the Ford running gear..
this will probably be my winter project.. buy a shed for winter and bring the corsa out for summer next year (maybe may time)
4WD is for pussies.. RWD would be mad..
get the car drifting

Yea, you would have to spaceframe up the front of the car to get the engine in facing the proper way round...
Would have to make some space for the gearbox, which means no pedals anymore - no probas though because you just need to run your seats further back and get a pedal box in there. Then Run a transmission tunnel - by this time your gonna have to just weld your sets down to the floor because there is no more room for subframes
Then get the Sierra rear wishbones in - you should get some custom coilovers in there instead of the Sierra rear suspension - just like they use on kit cars. This would probably involve a space frame in the rear too...

The gearbox would poke out the back of the car Would have to lengthen the car by about 10 feet

my mates had the back end out loads on the track in his 340bhp 4x4 mk2 fiesta cosworth. was drifting it round the hairpin and that but think with 2wd it would just be insane as it such a short wheel base

IIRC isnt there something a bit didgy about making the propshaft shorter? I.e it becomes prone to breaking? As its weaker?

(could be talking crap)

How about putting the engine on the back seats, saving the problem of prop shaft and tunnel work.
Front drive shafts can be used still.
