how is it done have read haynes but dont see how it is done. I have the cylinder head all off and the hyrdraulic lifters removed.
I have a spring compressor.
Do i need to compress the valves enough to pull some kind of pin out of the top
if so this compressor is shite

took me a while to work it out, you lock the compressor over, and then wind the arm at the bottom to compress the spring. rather than try and force it down

theyre not washer as such theyre vlave spring retainers, or caps. place valve spring compressor ontop of that "washer" lol, other end on valve face, compress down and you will see 2 small collets attached to grooves in the end of the valve, prise these apart with a min screw driver, then remove clamp, valve spring will now be free and valve will fall oot the bottom

ah will try that, is there a small pin you need to remove? if so i am going to have to try and get an extension made, as the socket i was planning on using would be no use

no, no pin, just 2 collets that are a half a circle each, hard to explain, but you will see what i mean when you compress the valve spring. prise em apart, wont take much.
as said above, they can be an arse to get back on. fiddly as hell

right gave it a try there. Dont think my compressor is big enough, it is an 8"er
will also require some kind of extension for the end going to take this one back get a bigger one tommorow and hopefully managed it all to bits and reasembled over the weekend, then il just need to wait on powder coating if i ever manage to get a hold of the guy

it actually looks like the wrong type of spring compressor to me in the pic. mine has a sort of tube with the sides cut out of it, really hard to explain, instead of the black fork bit on yours

it works for removing the valves just fine, but you need to use a spring compressor to get them in again. its how i removed all 16 of the valves in my c20xe
