just been out for a 25mile round trip to feed brosters cat and stuff, and within 30 yards of my house, on the return journey, my car decided to break, lucky it didnt do it elsewhere really

turned the corner into my road, dropped into second and *crunch* wouldnt go in, tried for third, got it, and then gearlever went as sloppy as a porn stars chuff

i now have no gears, well... i do, i'm permanently stuck in third, which is nice

he is away in london for some reason or other, so i had his keys and the duty of feeding the cat to pay him back for helping me with my engine

and.... i knnow how to fix it, the linkage has just come undone, but why it did it so close to home i'll never know, just hope i havent bent the linkage trying to ram it into gear, cos i dont have a spare

i did this in the xe, beacuse i was nailing it lol.

could only get 3rd and 4th. drove about a mile. had to set off from 2 sets of lights and stop at 2 round abouts

linkage shouldnt have bent, just the arm thingy will have come off, thats all that happend on mine, i got a spare one too just incase it came off again and i lost it, i would be able to just throw the spare on to get home

Don't worry Rob, you'd have to try harder than that to bend it.

Count yourself lucky that's all it is, my box gave up in the high street just round the corner from my house and I had to limp mine home. I just about made it onto the drive when everyjthing jammed solid and I couldn't move the car.

Took 5 of us to man-handle the car the rest of the way onto the drive and into place the following morning, accompanied by some horrendous noises from the gearbox.

I had this problem, I snapped the gear linkage in half. Mine also got stuck in 3rd gear in the middle of a very busy roundabout.

Lucky it was near your house though.

Poor Robin.

I dont think Broster would trust me to feed his cat.

But me and the other half were looking at rabbits. They are so cool.
