had my 94 corsa sri now for about 5 months and noticed i ofeten have to top the water up for the rad.
Cant find any leaks anywhere, put some radweild in, but im still have to top it up now and then. where the hell is it going.
also yesturday and today, i noticed that when i was drivnig at slow speeds or stationary, the temp gauge was going into the red and steam has come out on two occasions when stopping. would this be due to not having enough water in the car or something else

headgasket failure maybe. is there any sings of oil in the water or water in the oil? could be going into the engine and burning it.
how far into the red was it going?

well it was in the red at one point but only for a moment, then i pulled away and it went down.
doesent seem to be water in oil or vice versa,
not burning anything out of the exhaust.
no loss in power,

you don't know where you're losing water from, yet there's steam coming out of your bonnet

gasket 10-15 quid, headbolts 1 quid each... head skimmed (if needed) 15 quid.. then just time taken to put it together... cambelt and waterpump too while its in bits. garage would charge 300-400 quid for it all

a freshly tensioned new belt can stress an old pump causing failure and its the pump that tensions the belt on the old 8 valvers

and my shopping list is,
head gasket
10 head bolts
water pump
cambelt
and also take the head to a garage to see if it needs skiming

get a compression test done just to be sure before you go spending money on extra bits, shouldn't cost you too much, especially if ur bro in law is a mechanic and has the kit lol

right i went out again tonight for a drive, going round slowly nothing above 50 really.
car didnt heat up at all, and it ran fine, surely if it was the head gasket it would do the same all the time wouldnt it.
could it be my thermostat
