Well u can still drive it but up to u if u want to risk it and end up getting a fine. Also if no tax your car has to be kept on private grounds.
I got my tax late and I got a ticket on my windsceen on the 2nd December with a fine to pay for having no tax and not declaring it sorn and it being on a public road

Some one is tell you bollox then.

The day it runs out is when you are no longer allowed to use your car on a public highway.

Not anymore

I remember when I had trouble coz my tax doc had my old plate on it and I had a new one on they wouldnt tax it as it didnt match I had to phone dvla to send me a new one, but this was 2 years ago and was allowed to wait.
but as Iv already said I got a fine for not having one 2 days after it ran out. Caught the guy doing it he said they get it all on computer the cars with tax ran out and havnt renewed and every month they do random checks at the houses to see if the car is still kept on public road therfor will get a fine

I've read this up...

you only get 14 days IF you have applied online BEFORE THE LAST DAY OF APPLICATION (so not a late application) or via the phone to renew your roadtax, inwhich case as you are waiting for the new tax disc to arrive, they are allowing 14 days for you to use your old tax disc...

but as far as giving you 14 days to get off your ass & do it, that is bollox!

The whole system is automated, I would assume that in the next 7 days you will be recieving your automatic fine too for not having the car taxed. It doesn't matter if the car is off the road, you only hae two choices these days. Taxed or SORN'd....

the online tax thing is a joke, my brother tried to do it last night, but it didnt find a valid MoT record for it, even thought the MoT was done under the new automated system
