How would you define the differences, for example sites such as fusionfabrication or whatever they are called make 4 point half cages which would generally be classed as a show cage, would a 6 point polished cage be still classed as a show cage, or only omp and rally class cages classed as 'real' cages. Please enlighten me

A proper roll cage will be FIA approved design.

well a show cage is just for show, i wouldnt rely on it to save your life!

If I got a cage I would want a real one definately, but the show cages tend to be polished and look alot flashier.

technically no, a real roll cage must have MIRA approval, by mathmatically testing strength etc, and a full FIA compliance stamp, with a use by date
otherwise, i could just copy a safety devices cage and say its an FIA aaproved design

a roll cage can be used if it built by FIA regs, i.e. making use of proper mounting points and the corect tubing, if this is done then you are legally allowed to race with it within the uk (scruitineers can turn down an FIA stamped cage if no fitted correctly etc) if you go of using different materials, like titanium, then it needs to be tested by/at MIRA to make sure its strong enough. hence mine is an FIA approved cage with no FIA stamp, because its built to FIA regs from FIA approved material. to get mine stamped would mean squashing the cage to show is good then building another one..... big cost

Fook really! i cant believe anyone would actually want to pay someone to crush their roll cage! well i supose then at least they no if they're safe or not.

i disagree, when you build a new design of roll cage, even using FIA approved materials, you have to send a disc with 3D mock ups and amthmatical details of it to MIRA so they can run simulated tests on it to see if it conforms to regulations, but thats only if you want FIA approval
mark, yours will not have FIA approval as it is not a design which has been tested for the stamp
there is no actual physical squashing of the cage, just a series of simulated tests using the data on the disc provided

thats correct rob
fusion's 6 point cage will help strenghten the car up for sure and also help in the event of a crash providing the cage is fixed to the car correctly. But they are for show purposes more than anything.
a sparco cage will need to be welded in, to make it a functional cage

my omp one is a 6 point bolt in but bloke at work preps small cost rally cars and he is welding it in for me, e mentioned cnc and 50mm tubing then i fell asleep
