BTW my mate who got 2 years was drunk at the time, and was caught with a beer in hand (idiot!) and the other was way over the limit, crashed and killed the passenger, hence the sentence.

Yeah its not half just a couple of months off, charge you a silly amount of money for the course and the fine on top.
Though I think you have to be offered this by the judge not ask to go on it.

did they do a blood test or just the fancy breath test machine. IIRC they test you twice and you can refuse to get done at side of road and request a blood test

Not really but I asked a magic 8 ball if I would go back to prison and it said no.

they offered a blood test after the road side test and station test he refused
just found this about the scheme
Courses
You may be offered a place on the DfT's "Drink Driver Rehabilitation scheme", an alcohol awareness course lasting 16 hours (which usually run evenings, weekdays and Saturdays, over at least three sessions, each a week apart), in return for a 25% reduction in the length of your disqualification.
The course is not intended to be further punishment, but as the start to getting back on the road. It aims to improve your awareness, knowledge and attitude towards drink-driving so as to reduce the likelihood of a further offence. Courses cost between £100 and £250, but can be paid in instalments.
You have to agree to do a course at the time of sentence and choose which course organiser you would prefer to do your course with. There are 28 organisations offering DfT approved courses throughout the UK.

You would think they might use common sense when he came up 1mg. Could of banged him up for an hour and tested him again.
