Looking at getting one of these at the end of the year when I turn 21. Is it worth forking out the extra money on insurance and opting for the JDM model? As far as I can make out the UK spec one is about 10 - 15bhp shy of the jap equivalent and has different front lights
Perhaps i'm generalising, anyway, whats your opinion of these? Pics would be ace too
P.s I would prefer a white one

UK models are likely to be white, and most imports are
i was not aware of a power difference between the two, only the different lights
JDM ones look better IMO, but either way, cracking little cars

I found the UK one difficult to insure at 21 let along the JDM, although I only had 1 yeahs no claims at the time.
JDM is cheaper to buy though.

UK colours are red, white and black.
Same for JDM I believe but I think the japs also got a few yellow ones, but dont quote me on that.

I would drive one. I presume you mean the old shape
Very quick and sound so nice
Just very harsh - couldn't live with one everyday
Gearbox nosiey, engine noisey, ride harsh but excellent car and 9K redline and you feel the vtec kick for sure

I wouldnt say the ride was harsh but then again all my previouscars have been really bumpy. If it was less firm it wouldnt be so awesome around the bends.
They are definitely noisey and in your face and not for everyone but I love mine, and it gets used (properly) every day

Will be a breath of fresh air after owning a lowered 106 GTi mate, trust me, I made the same change, the 106 was far harsher

just read a review, they describe the gearbox as "clunky". Just fancy something Jap now and 9000rpm sounds like fun

I wanted one when i bought my ATR, but couldnt insure it at the time; almost went for one recently but couldnt really afford one. Lovely cars and not to bad IMO; me and oli went all the way to preston in it and i thought it was comfy enough. Only pain was bending over and the petrol station for payment as was fookin expensive

the gti was very very harsh, even hurt sometimes hitting potholes
RE Whitter, I like the UK spec ones too, and you don't have to pay stoopid amounts for insurance

I get about 150 miles to £25 quid. Thats driving to work with a bit of traffic, and it gets VTEC'd 3 times a day, every day
Cost me £50 quid to do 400 miles of motorway driving @90-100.
Its ok-ish when you drive it out of VTEC, but its never going to give great MPG.
