Of removing a laquer coating off brushed aluminium?

Basically my new wheels have a brushed aluminium type centre cap, which has obviously had laquer coating it from the factory.

This laquer coating is peeling off, apparently a common problem with VAG centre caps of this nature, my options are to either remove the laquer coating and leave the metal exposed, or remove the laquer coating and reapply laquer.

As i need to remove the peeling laquer for both options, whats the best way without damaging/scratching the metal? wet/dry paper?

Wouldn't sandpaper ruin the brushed finish.

I know it may be timeconsuming, but can you not pick it off?

Best way i can think of.

im considering trying to pick it off

very fine wet and dry with plenty of soapy water might not scratch it will it?

wet & dry p1200 may b fine, my mum uses that 2 get nibs out of pait at work

heat it in boiling water then drop into icy water, should make it crackel and then pick it off.

made that up, but sounds quite a good idea

Yeah, he's just buffed them back up using Autosol. When they laquor them they're never water tight, hence the corrosion.

Using Autosol will protect them, but you will need to keep it up.
