After either one of these cars. Was just wondering which you'd believe to be the better car overall. I understand that they're similar performance wise, i also understand VW's build quality is great and peugeot's tend to be flimsy. The lupo WILL be more expensive, but in the long run, which is the better car considering i'm after something fast, fun and affordable for the summer. If money wasn't a problem (bear in mind evryone loves to save money, hence reason for throwing the peugeot into the equation)and you had to choose; which one would you choose and why?

the 106 is no doubt faster in a straight line, and better round bends, this is from owning a 106, and driving a lupo gti

see this is what makes it difficult, i've always had a soft spot for volkwagen, but the peugeot's are coming down in price so much now, that really you do get a lot of car for the money. As for the lupos,
http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/WWW/cars_search.asp?modelexact=1&lid=search_used_cars_full&make=VOLKSWAGEN&model=LUPO&variant=gti&keywords=&min_pr=1000&max_pr=9000&mileage=&agerange=&postcode=pr1+6de&miles=100&max_records=200&source=0&photo=1&sort=3&ukcarsearch_full=SEARCH

not necessarily ten grand.

I'd go for the Lupo.

Have driven the 106 GTi and it was quick and handled good but has a very flimsy feel to it.

Plus I hardly ever see Lupo GTis so the fact they are rarer would sway me in that direction. And its VW so worth the extra cash IMO for the quality

The lupo is faster 0-60 than the pug is,

but the pugs got a better top speed by 1mph!

if you can find one in decent nick for not too much wedge id have the lupo hands down!

i've been in my mates 106 gti, as he recently bought one, and to say i was impressed would be an understatement. Performance wise i thought they'd be similar but the peugeots build is probably not as heavy. Aren't they both supposed to be approx 125bhp standard?

that is not correct, even the basic figures will argue against that, both around 123bhp but the lupo will be a lot heavier.

Then theres the 0-60 of the 106 which is 7.4

This is my thought, as perhaps maybe it's worth spending the extra cash for that bit of individuality, plus i would have this car for at least the next 3 years, so durability would be an issue, hence swaying to VW's build quality

The Lupo is a better car overall, better built, better image, slightly slower than the pug but not enough to sway opinion

what do you expect, its parkers, go look at Evo's timing testing.

Pug tested the 106 with a payload and a tank of fuel, hence the slower 0-60, this meant they managed to get a lower ins group then a vts and use that as a selling point
