Anyone on here have one? Have an opportunity to pick one up cheap and wondered what they're like. Have read quite a few reviews and people seem pleased with them overall.
Would be the 40" version. Not sure on the model number though.
Any thoughts?
Cheers

Not really an LCD person tbh (i still believe plasmas are the better technology ), so cant comment about them that well! Though from what ive been reading and briefly seen, sony LCDs are alright - offer a good picture etc
U2U John though as he seems to know a fair bit about LCDs and bangs on about Sony gear!
Though see if you can get hold of the model number and do some review searching or go see the screen yourself.
p.s - when you say can hold of them though, it just a one off or can you maybe get a few?

its just a one off mate, sorry one of the girls my girlfriend works with is selling it as an unwanted gift!!
I heard that plasmas were hard to see from certain angles, is that true?

Find viewing angles similar to LCDs tbh mate - though they arnt good in direct sunlight, thats the only problem!
Well see if you can find out the model number, but if shes selling it cheap snap it up anyways as im sure you could make the money back if it isnt what you are after

cheers Dom, have a feeling we'll go for it, a 40" Bravia is slightly better than the 32" CRT we have at the moment
Will get the missus to find out the model number and let you know

Can't comment on the LCD, but Sony are the daddys when it comes to tv's.
As for viewing, pretty similar to a TFT screen.

X and W are the new fancy massive sony lcd's.
The V series is the best of the smaller ones and I think you can get them in 40" but the new X and W will cost a lot of pennies.

All the Sony LCD's I've seen seem to have a much nicer picture from all angles than their Plasma counter parts. I prefer LCD tbh.

must say i'm impressed with mine.
Viewing angle is awesome and colours are extremely vibrant. DVDs look so much clearer (especially now I'm using a decent component cable).
Let's not get onto how 360 games look, I'll end up getting all excited and wetting my knickers.
Can't fault it

there will always be those who prefer Plasmas and those who prefer LCDs. Both have their faults/advantages.
At the end of the day you still have to take the plunge and make a decision. I made mine based on loads of reviews and guidance from folks on AVForums, they seem to know what they're talking about

I know dave, lcds are generally better for day to day use but plasmas are still known to give better colours and constrast ratios - so for movie viewing (dim lighting situations etc) then plasmas are prefered.
But i suppose its personal preference at the end of it all

Does a plasma have to be over 50" for it to be true HD?

no, can be 42"+ - its the resolution of the screen that makes it HD
