not worth it. you need bigger brakes, not ones which have grooves and dimples, they really arent worth the money

Around £160, looking at blackdiamond combi discs, with greenstuff pads.
On the other note, where to get, and how much are sri calipers

DONT buy the crap discs. its a waste of money. they WILL NOT increase your stopping power
if you cant be arsed with getting bigger brakes, just replace what you have with genuine GM parts.
its a total waste of money buying gimmicky brakes, believe me, i've been there

but surely, slotted discs take the glaze off the pad, drilled discs cool the discs down. And grren stuff pads have a more sintered material so grip the disc more? the cheapet way to more efficient brakes, rather than replacing the calipers?

i've had greenstuff pads, the only thing they are good at, is reducing brake dust
i've had drilled and grooved discs, and they are crap, they are noisy, they warp, and they heat up quickly
how much will the pads and discs be? i reckon you could get calipers, pads and discs from a motorfactors for 160 quid, and it would be a better upgrade, it really would

what brakes do you have just now, older solid ones or newer vented ones? old solid's are 240mm, 1.4 sri's are vented and 260mm, defo improvement, diff calipers too.
if you want decent stuff, get some 1.8 sri gear, or go to the likes of hispec, godspeed, or brembo for some large discs and 4pots.
as rob says, dont buy fancy discs and pads, brakes work on leverage, a fancy design only reduces brake dust. had green stuff pads on my old c, same brakes as you, they were terrible!
alternitively, buy an anchor and chuck it out the back

okie, cheers for the advice guys, found somewhere doing sri calipers. And, bit of general knowledge for you, the 1.4 sri and the 1.8 sri both use the same caliper.

do they, interesting, disc size must be different, as 1.8's foul certain wheels unless its a ET40 offset, whereas 1.4's seem to be fine.

Discs are the same (both vented 260mm), think the calipers are different, because they use different brake pads. I'd imagine they have slightly smaller pistons on the 1.8 calipers to compensate for the calipers on the rear disks, but i'm only guessing

Dunno, just going of Vauxhalls usuall cost cutting methods, so if they made them smaller to compensate for the rears, they wouldnt need to design a new servo/master cylinder .
Logic would say they're bigger though .
Anyway, back to the subject: Phone vauxhall to ask if the 1.4 calipers are different to the 1.2/1.0 ones (they all use the same brake pad, so could possibly be the same). Either way i'd upgrade to the SRi ones though, I'm well impressed with them .

Whats wrong with the standard brakes? Seem pretty decent to me? When you're on quite a limited budget, it would make sense to wait and save some more money for better brakes.
