The prize is decided by media votes at the tournament. Zidane received 2,012, Italian captain Fabio Cannavaro finished second (1,977) and his team mate Andrea Pirlo was third (715).

Apparently the decision was made at 1/2 time in the final.

Quality headbutt IMO. Obviously he shouldnt have done it but I know from my own experiences that sometime, something is said that just gets to you and you react in a way you regret later. Id like to see how everyone else who is slating him would of reacted in that very situation, although some people are better at keeping their temper than others

Probably terribly - but then I'm not on thousands a week at the top of my profession. He's supposed to be world class.

I would have been sickend if he got away with it and lifted the trophy. Justice served in a way.

I still think he is world class. Just because he lost it for a split second doesnt take anything away from his fantastic footballing ability. It's just such a shame that this is how we are going to remember him.

apparently Materazzi said something about Zidane's mother

Would of p!ssed me off to be honest. Especially if it was a racist comment. To be honest as Ian said he should of been professional enough to suck it up and let his feet do the talking.

It obviously got to him.

I just read on Sky Sports website that he called him a terrorist which got to Zidane because of his Angolan routes

whether or not this is true I dunno, you'd have to ask Zidane
